A single lane of highway doesn't get more than 2000 cars per hour. Even self driving won't increase that much. If all cars have to wait for someone to get out of their cars since we're only on 1 lane then it'll get eve

I never said we'd get rid of roads. Parent was saying that we shouldn't build rail because of autonomous cars.

How do self-driving cars deal with capacity? Even with self driving cars there isn't enough capacity on the roads for everyone. Highways are terrible at traffic throughput. To give you an example Crossrail in London has the capacity

Efficiency of what though? Space? Roads take up way more space than tracks. Efficiency of cost? Roads are very expensive. Often more expensive per passenger mile than railroads. Efficiency of energy use? Moving a 2000kg electric car aro

Yet these same people will complain about public money being spent to subsidize public transport.

It's not a silly article. Whenever the idea of subsidising public transport people try and claim that we don't need to subsidise cars so why should we do it for public transport. If the true costs of cars were taken into conside

You're misunderstanding me completely. I don't think that if remain had won it would be more democratic. I don't want referendums at all. I'm not alone in that thought. Germany has actually outlawed referendums. As f

Wanting the referendum to be overturned doesn't mean that one is undemocratic. My reasons for wanting the referendum overturned are the same reasons I don't want referendums in the first place. Namely I believe that referendums

One thing you need to be careful about is comparing a service in China with the service outside of China. For example Skype in China because of the monitoring put on it disconnects all the time where it would be fine outside of China. Ser

I've just gone through the process of creating kubernetes configs for our entire infrastructure. I essentially created an identical set of scripts myself to deal with all our existing configs. Would have been nice to have this 4 week

In the UK the Human Rights Act applies to all Humans (the current government is trying to change this but it still applies) The notion of human rights applying to only citizens is very strange to me.

Somaliland has a government. It's the bits without government that have issues. Only someone who's lived their life in a place with semi effective government will think that without government things will function.

This argument would hold more weight if the pharmaceutical sector didn't have 17% profit margins. Only beaten by Banks, Financial Services, Shipbuilding, and Tobacco. http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/New_Home

No it's not. Study after study has shown that building more roads doesn't speed up cars it just increases the number of cards and reducing roads doesn't slow down cars it just decreases the total number.

Monopoly is the natural end state of capitalism. Once a company is big enough it's easy to destroy or buy out all competition. It's only regulation that prevents all industries becoming monopolies over time. You're confusin
