Household income isn't just married households. It includes cohabiting couples, something that is more common now.

Large crawler cranes? There are small ones around London, about the same size as truck cranes but very rarely do I see one the size of these ones on New York.

Yeah I very rarely see crawler cranes here in London. The only times I see them are to disassemble tower cranes. I wonder if this has to do with the size of streets in New York vs London. In New York most streets are wide enough to accomm

Every plant has a slightly different need but generally speaking you can grow plants very efficiently if you use the entire red spectrum and 10-20% of the blue spectrum. That allows for significant energy savings.

Grains will be the last thing to change and that won't be for a very long time. Also you have to take into account increased yields, faster grow times, lower fertiliser, pesticide, herbicide and tractor fuel costs. Your sanity check is

Where are you getting 10 square miles of solar farm to support 1 square mile of dense indoor farming? Energy can be stored or brought in from other areas during the night. And no you can't stack in a greenhouse for the same reason tha

You don't need 50% efficient solar collectors. That'd be the case if 1 meter squared of plants had 1 meter squared of leaves. Even at full growth there are large gaps and for most of the growing time there are even larger gaps.

When a citizen has made their way to usually the largest, most well connected city in the continent already it's not much of a rescue. And yes they were expecting a Saving Private Ryan moment.

I find it interesting that immigrants are blamed for this. Lets take the hypothetical situation of a baby boom. 5 years down the line our hypothetical city needs twice as many schools yet doesn't have them. Now do we blame the parent

And people still grow plants by hand. The future is still going to be automated farms just as the present day is mechanised farms. The advantages that automated warehouse farms give will be too great to not do. Faster grow cycles, no need

Sugar cane is very much the exception. Most crop plants (which have over the years been selected for efficiency indirectly) manage 1-2%. No one is suggesting growing sugar cane indoors yet, just purely on the basis of it's height you

Most plants photosynthesise on a very narrow band of light. It's actually more efficient to generate electricity using solar panels and reemit using specific wavelength leds. Plants are around 2% efficient while solar panels are arou

You can bet that if outright combined arms conflict had suddenly erupted in the city various developed militaries of the world would have provided protection for their citizens to leave. That's visibly demonstrated by every civil war.

I think the reason 2% is viewed as low compared to expectations is not understanding how it compounds. 2% means a doubling of the economy in 35 years. 2% means that in the space of an average lifespan the economy will be almost 5 times la
