The idea is to be exchanging them _in_advance_, i.e. exchanging the savings part of your monthly salary to USD every month. Don't wait till the shit hits the fan and everybody wants to get rid of their local money.

I'd keep my long-term savings in a foreign bank, so the authorities could at most get my grocery and rent money (still bad, but not quite as devastating). If foreign bank was not an option, I'd just keep my money in the proverbial

Also, I've recently bought a USB Bluray drive, and I'm really surprised at how hard they made it to play a freaking Bluray movie on a PC. Even the proprietary and expensive software like PowerDVD is crap (does not play every movie

I'm not sure if WoW and similar games fulfill the deep needs of connection and belonging people have (for example, Breivik was pretty much playing WoW 24/7 for a couple years before he moved on to his radicalism and, eventually, m

I'm sure you can see that the post linking to the (simplifying) anti-YC blog being accidentally killed by spam filter can raise questions about whether it was really an accident. I'm not saying it was not - I'm just saying th

This comment is shown as fine to me, whereas it really is dead: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10245424 I'd love to hear a non-malicious explanation for that.

My post wasn't downvoted, but was visible only to me (no other user could see it). It looked like a scheme to kill my post without me realising it.

My own post was taken down before, so I'm pretty sure some form of censorship exists. I don't know if it's enforced by mods or implemented otherwise, but that's a minor point.

There seems to be an algorithm which demotes some posters (at least one) voicing opinions unfavorable to YC. EDIT: just got downvoted without any comment. I wonder if I am on the kill list as well.

I've picked up Scala four years ago. To see which technology is likely to rise, you need to think like big businesses do - in this case, Scala can be seen as a Java++(++++), whereas competing technologies, such as Clojure or Haskel, ar

Doesn't STL containers make your program slower though (e.g. game devs generally manage memory manually, for better performance)? For something like FFmpeg, that's a valid concern.
