ChromeOS had a similar chance to make Search button (Globe) the window management key. But somehow they messed it up and now window/desktop management is sometimes using Search button, other times using Alt. Huge missed opportunity for

Similar to mouse wheel scroll speed being a single line and not easy to change. Firefox does have a config setting for it but chrome doesnt. Even Chrome OS scrolls a single line at a time. It feels so wrong…

Namecheap also goes through user searches to pick up domains for their premium offerings, at least 10 years ago. Not actually sure where it’s ”safe” to search for free domains when you are still undecided.

The adware mentioned in the bloatware section are installed by Windows on Windows installation. May wary between locales.

I’ve noticed it’s better to install Windows without a connection to the internet. There will still be some packaged in software you might want to rid of, but at least not the advert apps like duolingo, candy crush and netflix. Then disable

Thanks for writing up your experience. I’ve been wondering how well liveview works when interacting with the page with variable latency. I tried to search some sites made with liveview in the past, but couldnt find any apart from some offic

In your linked article they are specifically telling people not to turn off their air conditioners.

Prisma is a nice product but I wouldn’t use it in production yet. It is prone to race conditions as it does not use native upserts, opting instead for Rails-style check-if-exists-insert-if-doesnt.

I use Rust for the amazing types, map/filter/reduce, and, even if I never write macros myself, beautiful libraries like serde and clap. I do need to often use async to wait for multiple network requests at once, although I'm

That sounds interesting. There must be apps that do require full access (like a finder alternative), so I wonder if you can know to trust an app to be isolated just by looking at it.

Wow that looks cool. I really want to install apps without entrusting my entire hard drive to them.

Nice, faster rust builds are always welcome. I wonder if in the future some service might even offer prebuilt crates for the various architectures. I think that idea was brought up at some point.

Some people call it the top down method. Start with the end result of what you want the program to be, in this case the public api methods.

Rust-analyzer destroys my Vscode experience in larger codebases (language features, formatting, version control becomes incredibly slow). I don’t know if there’s anything you can do about it but I hope it will be solved at some point.

Usb-c ports on macbooks are pretty famous for wearing out so you start to get external display connection problems. Although like you said I also had to replace the lightning port on my iPhone so I guess they might not be that different.

I can imagine. Last year I tried to sign up to create a domain for my home server. Despite having my own IP address and a Google account I pay for recaptcha v3 they use would not let me through.

This is what I’m interested in. Article itself did not mention cross site tracking. Every website having their own tracking subdomain makes third party cookies not work cross site even without browser changes.

Sounds nice. I’m hoping android becomes a reasonable option once my old SE finally dies. The new SE phones are huge and iPhone Minis are in constant rumors of getting cancelled. Android likely has more options for small size phones.

I use Firefox for everyday generic browsing, and Chrome for specific buckets. Chrome profiles are soo good and easy to use compared to Firefox profiles or containers. I’ll definitely look into portable Firefoxes for buckets.

Is GC for Rust possible in the future? I’d love that if it means simpler compiler error messages for e.g. closures.

I’ve taken my iPhone to a couple of repair shops. They always ask for the pin code and I always refuse and say it’s a work phone. Very much hoping the secure enclave works and my data has not left the phone.

For me twitter the website runs very slow and does not feel snappy at all, e.g. you have to wait for tweets to load again after back button, and replies to load after each transition. Perhaps it is easier on the servers but very, very few s
