How would you hedge interest rate risk on trillions of dollars in US treasuries? Who takes the other side of that trade, and why? I don’t think that sort of hedge exists.

Creditors definitely do lose money when they price debt at 2% but inflation runs at 7%. Talking about mortgages misses the larger fixed rate bond market (government and company long term debt).

There are lots of examples of encroachments on freedom to avoid the spread of bad tech - e.g. limits on purchasing cough syrup to avoid producing crystal meth, or limits on uses of nuclear power to try to avoid nuclear weapons. I don’t buy

Not quite the same - pre-pill, Musk did not have funding lined up. Post pill, he produced written documents about how he was going to fund the buyout, and had to promise to buy all the shares, not just the first 51%.

IMO a core feature of the terminal is that it has a chat program that costs 20K per year to get on. That’s a pretty great filter for figuring out if someone is worth talking to about a 10MM dollar trade.

I think the problem with innovation is more the incentive structure. There are too many people trying to p-hack stuff that just doesn’t work well and spin it to get the next grant, and not enough people actually breaking new ground.

The StackOverflow datacenter is famously tiny - like, 10 Windows servers. So even if the rest of the internet goes down hopefully they stay up. They might have to rebuild the internet out from their server room though.
