I dunno about that profit margin. Don't underestimate how expensive developing products is as low scale. It would not surprise me if the margin is pretty normal.

I disagree very strongly. Next is great for just front-end. I use Next with the static export. - Next does a good job as a React framework (ie CRA alternative) - Next does a great job with code bundling and splitting out of the box - Next&#

How is Vite compared to Next with static export? I moved my React apps over to Next earlier this year and I've been pretty happy.

Portability. The ability to take your laptop and work somewhere else. Take it to a meeting. Etc. I see devs talking about syncing their work between multiple computers and it just sounds like a huge pain. Having a single laptop that you use

I've implemented an email relay before. We had an email address like relay+<code>@site.com that was delivered to a webhook via Mailgun. The code after the plus gave us all the unique information we needed to handle the email.

Lots of PMs work without a data team and pull their own data. It is a huge time sink. However, it's also a time sink talking to a data team, waiting, and getting back less than what you were hoping for. I assume you're solo or sma

You make a most after you've won and become huge. The most prevents smaller, more innovative companies from succeeding even though they're better than you. For example, good luck building a better search engine without Google'

I like the office for social work: meetings, brainstorming, etc. I was never able to be productive doing heads down work like coding or analysis in the office. Even 10 years ago, I would do a lot of that stuff at home after hours. I complet

USB-C ports have a flaw in their physical design. Due to the shape of the port, dust and other gunk slowly gets jammed down into the port and eventually enough builds up that you can't get a good connection anymore. It happens after ab

But isn't a VPS an inferior option compared to a static host like Netlify? Netlify is free and gets your statics on a global CDN. A VPS is not free and has to serve the statics itself.

I'm not sure if this exactly what you're talking about, but I think it's important to be able to be content and calm while doing nothing. If not, it's a sign something is off with your mental health. In very general term

I've heard people compare FreeCAD to KiCad (a PCB design tool). KiCad has been usable for a long time but it's only recently gotten good enough where you might choose to use it over the other choices because it's so good. I&#

When I was in college, I took an integrated circuit design class. I was told the software we used was around $1M per license. We had to go into the lab and use Sun computers to use it.

Find a niche. Something small where you're not competing with larger companies. Like you said, you don't need to make much money as an individual so there are lots of areas that companies won't touch. I personally steer away

One of the best things I did for my productivity was ditching my desktop. Having to sync between my desktop and laptop slowed me down. Having to learn how to work on two different devices (different keyboards, monitor setups, etc) slowed me

From what I hear of FreeCAD, it sounds like it's going to be awesome and widely used, but not for 5-10 years. Anyone have enough experience to back that up? I'm personally using Fusion 360 and OpenSCAD.

You underestimate how difficult the marketing is to get something like this going. These apps are two-sided or even three-sided marketplaces where you can't attract one side without already having the others. Why would a restaurant use

Generally speaking, if you're not logged in and nobody has told you to stop, you should be ok. There is a service called SerpAPI that provides an API around stuff you might scrape. Haven't tried it myself but heard its good.

You'll be useful for something. If nobody needs to code anymore, some enterprising person will come up with a financially lucrative way to utilize all the ex-developers. Will it pay as much? Maybe, maybe not. Will you survive. Yep!

BuyMeACoffee also connects to Stripe directly. I'm guessing Stripe has just vetted Ko-Fi and BuyMeACoffee and are ok with their business models vs individuals doing crowd funding.

I've heard the argument that an engineer who wants to go should be let go. They won't be motivated anymore even if you pay them more to stay. Not sure if that's valid.

You can use Stripe as an individual. There is basically no vetting from my experience. For example, if you get donations on Buy Me A Coffee, they pay you through Stripe.
