That is depressing, isn't it? On the other hand, I'm still wondering why Google hasn't switched away from the Flash-based graphing tool seen Analytics and Finance.

I can only agree. Recently I wanted to get better at C and started to poke around in wget's bug tracker. I found an appropriate bug and asked twice on the mailing list if my suggested implementation would be okay. No answer in both cases. T

To be fair when I talk about, say, legal issues I tend to blurt out dangerous half-truths that I deduct from supposed 'first principles'. On the other hand I would never write an article on the law like this person has done.

I believe that is basically it. They won't be participating in writing specifications, but I don't think that anyone will be stopping Apache (or anyone else) from implementing any of the JSRs. If a hypothetical Java Servlet API v4.0 would b

My brother is writing his thesis in Economics soon and we live at different ends of our country. I'm trying to convince him that Latex is the way to go and being able to do online help sessions would help a lot . Besides, to someone who ha

I'm sure they aren't writing another phone OS, but what devices exactly are they targeting? TVs, set-top boxes, MP3 players? I loved the hardware of a Sony MP3 a bought a couple of years ago but it was ruined by absolutely atrocious syncing

I switched to Vim because to me it seems that TM2 is vapourware. I know Allan is trying to get it right with his second go but he is so coy about any sort of details that I lost interest in it.

They are trying to force people who develop websites for IE (which applies to 95%) to buy a copy of windows.

Hi, I have read the job descriptions and they sound really great. I have 2 questions: 1. I have left university 13 months ago and have worked for an online shopping company in Berlin ever since. I have done freelance development as a studen

Also in this case the "desktop" would then be just any old client which could easily be upgraded/swapped out and something other than Windows could be used as OS.

What is the website's audience and is it private or for work? Whenever I've done side projects, I just build it for modern browsers and then maybe make it just a bit better than not working on the most recent IE.

Yeah, I enjoyed it because I haven't read a Stallman interview yet that wasn't about licenses, the FSF, politics or some thing that he strongly disagrees with. This reminds one that Stallman is a great hacker and not just a campaigner.

I kinda agree with the article but is like Microsoft saying: "Who needs Java when you can have .NET?" They would say that wouldn't they? I can't figure out what they are trying to get at with this article. I can't help but feeling that they

Years ago I started to wonder how long China could keep this whole game of censorship. I thought that they would inevitably become more open as their contact with foreign countries increased. This hasn't happened, has it? What I see instead
