I always assume that such a short warranty period is for catching manufacturing defects and shipping damage and not amortization from normal use. Essentially a 1 year warranty is not much better than a 1 month or a 1 week warranty for a lap

Reminds me of Dijkstra's algorithm explained with threads and beads. The nodes are represented by beads and the weighted edges are represented by threads between the beads with lengths equal to the weights of the corresponding edges. Y

Motion blur is only "accurate" if you assume that the viewer's eyeballs remain still and don't follow the moving object. Having said that not blurring isn't accurate either on current LCDs when the viewer follows th

You should never rely on the underlying CPU architecture's behavior on integer overflow when you write C or C++. It is undefined and not unspecified or implementation defined.

The author probably meant the largest available integral type, which can be __int128 on gcc and clang.

Yeah, ok, so we have essentially PDF -> SVG -> PDF/PS because of too many abstractions. It would make sense to expose some internal printing API to the embedded PDF reader so all this nonsense wouldn't be necessary.

I strongly disagree, also the way the article describes subpixel antialiasing is not entirely accurate. The thing is the boundaries between pixels don't actually exist, it's just a convention so we can address individual pixels an

> SVG is the only way to get vector printing through a browser currently This is what seems weird. Why is that? Also it's not like most printer drivers don't need to convert it back to ps or pdf before printing.

I am not surprised, given the poor SVG support of Firefox (and browsers in general). Also there are gradient types that PDF supports but SVG doesn't. I am also not sure why they would need to go through SVG for printing.

Another pain point on text AA: Many renderers mix up colorspaces on antialiasing. For example freetype assumes a linear colorspace when calculating the antialiased bitmap but AFAIK both GTK and QT apply it directly on sRGB without any adjus

The cases where Mathematica solves integration by spitting out all kinds of exotic functions (Bessel functions, all kind of weird elliptic integral functions and so on). They don't have these kind of integrals in their training data.

Some time ago I wrote an implementation for Gray code decoding that made use of the POPCNT and PDEP CPU instructions. I thought it was interesting and I wrote up a short article on the topic. I will gladly answer any questions.

It's a very nice proof. Note that this implicitly relies on a great trick used in probability theory, namely that E(X_1 + X_2 + ... + X_n) = E(X_1) + E(X_2) + ... + E(X_n), even if the random variables are not independent. In this spec
