HN probably could return to "crypto" and "cryptocurrency"; the rest of the world will keep on being "crypto" and "cryptography". Orders of magnitude more people care about cryptocurrencies than crypto

I had a fantastic experience at DevCon V. Ethereum developer conferences attract all the technical folks and almost none of "money" people. I haven't gone to any Bitcoin conference, but I can't see it being the same. Bit

Favorited this comment for when my brain remembers "people argue online because of how our memory works", but not exactly how I arrived to that conclusion.

This is the part of Apple that I love. iLife, enabling creativity with great results out of the box. Even makes me forget, for a second, that they still run a monopoly on kid casino in form of an App Store.

Don't worry, Dall-E adds these coloured squares to the bottom right corner, so you will always know that an image is AI-generated. (/s)

Not directly related, but I can still recommend "Assassin's Creed Odyssey" as a very enjoyable recreation of key places and buildings around ancient Greece. Ubisoft spent a considerable effort to research and recreate some hi

Does any other language require to use a special notation, similar to PHP’s “$”, any time a variable is referenced? I can only think of CSS, using “--“.

This format of critique is so snarky and tribalistic. I enjoy it sometimes, particularly John Gruber's "translations from corporate bullshit" articles, but there's no point in denying that this format works best for prea

GDPR was up to 4%. As far as I know, this was never applied to anyone. I would expect the same here. Fines will likely be somewhat reasonable.

I'm quite certain I could fit BR logic in less than 300 bytes of JS Regex. There is no need for an API here.

All of these Discord and Telegram "DAOs" are almost always scams. Crypto makes them easier, but they would probably still exist in some shape even without it. It is hard to argue that "they don't represent crypto" w

Someone do this for AV1 / AVIF, and particularly how it compares to H.264 and HEVC / HEIF. I'd love a deep dive.

Coda was quite dead before relaunch as Nova. Even if not outright discontinued, if Nova got to the stage Coda 3 was, that would not be great.

I understand that, and I've been buying their software for at least 10+ years, starting with CandyBar. My point is, for the effort it requires, I don't see it paying off. I would bet money that Nova will be discontinued in less th

I'm happy to see them try, but rationally, I just don't understand why Panic is even trying. The trade-offs are just too steep. They won't ever have the ecosystem of open-source, Electron-based editors. And whatever you gain

My experience with trying to help open-source projects with design has been quite bad. Projects that most need design help are usually not sponsored by a company, a true contributor project. Design is opinionated, and for many projects it c
