Yes, sorry about that. I really wanted to find one conference talk that went into a lot of details about picking gas limit and why (sync catching up, etc), but after googling for a couple of minutes, couldn’t find it.

Sure, “to get rich”. Not a very productive discussion. The WHY I meant was “why these technical choices”. Even if we take a cynical view that all of crypto is purely a money extraction machine, we can still learn something new by looking at

This is not a good article. Or at least, very intellectually dishonest. I could go point by point, but instead, just one will do. The comparison of ETH block vs Raspberry Pi. It is presented as if it’s some kind overlooked, unsolved issue b

One unmentioned con: no updates, no new torrents can be added (or, updates require re-deployment of full new .sqlite db, together with a new website). I think there's a space for decentralized database format. Something that would have

Not what I expected at all: log (n.2) "record of observations, readings, etc.," 1842, sailor's shortening of log-book "daily record of a ship's speed, progress, etc." (1670s), from log (n.1). The book so called

I'm sorry, it's difficult for me to find a truly charitable interpretation of this response. But I'll do my best. Blockchains started very simply. Famously, Bitcoin's whitepaper is just a couple of pages long. Simple sys

There are many gateways that allow viewing IPFS content over HTTP (e.g. ipfs.io), but the "true" IPFS experience is not over HTTP, it's done via P2P and addressed using content hashes. For example, one of my NFTs has content

While it's refreshing to hear critique from someone who actually built something on web3, there are a couple of points where I'd dare to disagree, somewhat. Particularly, regarding "early days". It really is, still, earl

It’s a problem, I agree, but because the “authenticity information” can be expressed somewhat succinctly (it’s just a smart contract address), the trust element can be decentralized. Artist might post it on their Twitter, Instagram and webs

This page argues for registering artworks and going to courts to verify full chain of custody, not to mention having digital identities issued by a trusted authority, which is also usually not free. All combined, this is a lot more expensiv

For me it was a combination of IDE that allowed very easily to merge different assets (text, vector graphics, sounds) with basic scripting and a timeline. Now you kind of have to think in code, and architect the site as a whole, there'

I love SMIL. Have been using it to craft custom SVG loaders for almost every brand I've worked with. Loader is usually much smaller than a gif, vector, animated 60 FPS, etc. So good.

This is the best take I've seen on HN. It's unfair to judge tech by its scummiest users, just as it is unfair to present future potential as if it's already here. There is remarkable amount of technological innovation being c
