What a strange implementation of "format on too many missed passcodes". Apple (on iOS and watchOS) implements this, but after some amount of failures, phone gets into progressively longer lockdowns. So maybe after 3 failed attempt

I see this as securing against "unknown unknowns". No software can ever be "100% bug free". If you can identify areas that are more likely to contain yet-undiscovered vulnerabilities and turn them off in advance, the dev

Assuming the node network and mining remains intact... now you own a pretty valuable and difficult to replicate infrastructure. At least some people will want to own the "native token" of that network.

We have a lack of curiosity and skepticism, and too much passion. There is quite a bit of echo-chamber effect going on, entrenching current view. Suppressing an emotional topic might help later on. Hopefully in 5-10 years cryptocurrencies w

Time and time again, low-substance high-hate articles about cryptocurrencies rise to #1 spot. This is not healthy. At this point I think it would be good to discourage all cryptocurrency discussion: I don’t think we are yet capable of havin

Boom was about the money supply; bust is about rising interest rates to fight inflation. COVID was the cause of the money supply, and now COVID is also the cause of ongoing supply shortages (in addition to money supply hangover), resulting

Here in Lithuania we were already independent from Russian gas and oil (lesson learned over the decades), and had liquid natural gas terminal for a few years. But inflation is also very high.

As a European, I'm very happy. USB-A has been with us for over 20 years. It's only disappearing because of USB-C, and USB-C seems to have room to grow. I wouldn't be surprised if it will still be the most popular connector in

I don't think this is the right take. - We already have reliable rumors that next-next iPhone (not this Sept, but next) will have USB-C port. - Qi is not a standard they control like Lightning either way. - Portless phone would be very

I guess I should have added "no longer works on mobile". PCs/Consoles have plenty of good, paid-upfront games.

It's even more frustrating, because the game is good . I really enjoyed playing the first 30 levels or so. Good story, good controls, very satisfying gameplay. If I could pay $60 and just have a "classic" Diablo on my phone,

I'm curious about this question, even though it's a bit off-topic: how likely is it that an entity (commercial or governmental) could "secretly" produce enough mining hardware to consistently have 51% of network's h

For cryptocurrencies with fees priced with gas, price volatility is not a problem. As the price grows, number of gas units per operation will likely go down, but will maintain its "stable currency" price. Ether's price doesn&

Curiously neither PyTorch nor Tensorflow currently use M1's Neural Engine. Is too limited? Too hard to interact with? Not worth the effort?

The original comment was about the design space, and I have to agree: Inkscape is stuck behind. Figma is a very high quality product, actually fewer bugs or issues than its offline counterparts.

For sure! Until we can figure out how to make global consensus ridiculously scalable, I don't see "web3 social" being successful at all. It's using a very expensive resource for a frivolous need.

P2P is a big component of blockchains. The "expensive" part is competition for the limited capacity in global consensus (block space), which is necessary if you want to interact with global systems that deal with high value object

NanEyeC is 1mm by 1mm, with 320 x 320 resolution. Unbelievable. And slightly worrying: it totally breaks my expectation of what can contain a camera.

I have nothing against "owned" short URLs, without external dependencies. But for "vanity", the best vanity URL is a domain name. Buy it, own it.

URL shorteners were (still are!) probably the worst idea/trend on the internet. They solved a silly short-term pain (twitter not storing full URLs) but introduced a long term dependency, and normalized tracking via these links.

So, you don't like "central banks", but you still want a centralized party to control the currency? Otherwise, you need blockchain. Blockchain is just a consensus mechanism around data entries. If you want "just a virtua

Any font that doesn't try to be neutral. Consider Cooper Black, or Larken, or even the horrible Lobster. Even with sans-serifs you can be more expressive, for instance Px Grotesk.

Old logo was probably the cleverest rendering of a fox using very few lines. The new logo is a lot less smart, much more standard. Typography is also uninspiring: seems to be using Inter, which is designed to not have any character (pun not
