You know, as a guy that uses free software whenever possible, I never liked a Microsoft product until I gave the Zune a shot (got it for free, so...). It still pisses me off, having to run a virtual machine just to load up my music, and I'

Whether they have "Mathematics" on their diploma is immaterial; I'd bet good money that most of these guys took some real serious math classes in school.

Forget security, programming is mathematics. If you program, you should be doing this whether you're writing security code or not. Nothing saves me more keystrokes or debugging time than proving things about my algorithm before I code i

Anonymous as a whole isn't juvenile, though many members certainly are. The point, as ErrantX replied, is that they are being deliberately absurd , and this is a powerful one, as it calls out the absurdity in Scientology that is not delibe

Asymptotic bounds can be given in the worst case, the best case, the average case ("in expectation"), or with high probability. All have rigorous definitions and you should go learn about them. There is nothing bastardized about this nota

The behavior I've seen is that when you log out, the process doesn't end until all other clients to the connection have exited. I've observed what you describe if I then ^C it. The way I usually do it is by opening something over TRAMP bef

One of the most impressive SSH tricks I've seen is the ControlMaster option. It saves your authentication information on a per-(user, host) basis, which lets you share one connection among multiple ssh/scp/rsync commands and TRAMP sessions

Keychain is the best. It also works with gpg-agent, if you're old and cranky enough to still think gpg is worth using.

Apart from "cool", is there a tangible advantage to this over a pad of paper? I don't see one. It looks to me like a future expensive thing I forgot on the bus. I'd also for sure lose the pen and end up using it to support real paper to

I don't think they have this in Javascript, but you want range trees, or, as drblast puts it, binary space partition, for detection. For object redirection, just figure out which side of your grenade crosses another object first. You can d

This ruby code hurts my brain, mostly because it tries to be too cute (if you want to do configuration in a ruby script, aren't you supposed to use yaml or something?). Why not just a shell script? #!/bin/sh LOCAL_HOST=localhost

Not the same thing. This is meant as an initscript to set up a port forward, autossh/rstunnel just watch an ssh connection you initiate and restart it as needed. You could use autossh/rstunnel to implement this though.

In a more perfect world, the general public would understand the important distinction between malicious "hackers" and you guys. Keep up the good work. What do you tell your laymen friends and family that you do? Do you call it hacking?
