Halfway around the globe is 20 000 km. Which would be (0.97^20)–(0.98^2)) = 54–66% efficiency. Not good, but still better than what I expected.

That is factually incorrect. Even though politics blocked a faster increase of renewables Germany was able to greatly reduce fossil fuels usage for electricity production even while exiting nuclear: https://de.m.wikipedia.org

That would be unwise though, considering that building nuclear power plants is slower and more expensive than wind and solar in Europe.

The difference between law and software is that with law you have more disadvantages from churn. Companies depend on stable legal situations, and it's important for people in the law system to keep up with changes.

You are right that Tesla has some inherent value to fall back to but cryptocurrencies do not. But still Tesla is probably valued several times too high. Tesla has almost three times the market cap of Toyota right now.

Coal plants in Europe are much cleaner than they used to be (still we should work on shutting them down). Nowadays emissions from traffic, industry in general and heating all are in the same order of magnitude: https://ec.europa.

Most countries in Europe have banned burning coal at home for decades. For heating burning wood is a major source of pollution. Other reasons are cars and the relatively high population density.

How is photovoltaics reliant on fossil fuels? Reducing electricity use sure is important but has its limits. Photovoltaics and wind are the cheapest way to produce that electricity in a clean way.
