One thing that's missing from a lot of arcade cab builds is that old games often don't run at a 60Hz refresh rate, and so you get a strange jittery effect as it has to skip or duplicate frames to display at 60Hz on normal LCD moni

I've been using it on some cheap ethernet-over-power adapters (Devolo, not "HomePlug" brand) for streaming MythTV recordings of HD UK TV for several years and it's been completely fine. UK Freeview HD is 1080i though, bu

Personally I prefer to be able to hear cars and people when I'm cycling, so that I'm less likely to hit anything or be run over. Do you not feel it makes you more likely to have an accident?

This is possible, but requires different wiring to light switches, to provide power there (which isn't common) and for manufacturers of replacement switches, bulbs etc to care about security. The former isn't something which is ha

That's exactly what X10 does, but it's fallen out of favour in recent times. (I've not used it so I couldn't say why)

I've been running it (or an equivalent ethernet-over-power from another vendor) for years and streaming HD TV over it with no problems. RF spewing out of the mains wiring is true, but again I've not had any obvious problems due to

That is awesome, and would be something I would try and do right now, if I hadn't got rid of my cable subscription in favour of over-the-air Freeview (I'm in the UK).

Isn't NUMA how multi-core CPUs work still? At least the AMD Bulldozer architecture diagram on the Wikipedia NUMA page shows this, both within a socket and between sockets: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-uniform_

I have one of these and this is why I blocked the wifi bridge from any outgoing network access. The mystery server then just uses the MAC address of the bridge as the "authentication" of where you get to control the lights via th

In the UK the opposite is true; if you have a contract you get better per-month costs, and over the course of 2 years it's often enough to pay for a smartphone bought contract-free. I have just done this myself with a 24-month contract sa

Debian _un_stable, on the other hand may be (depending on when you last updated). There is a new package available and so an `apt-get install sudo' or `apt-get upgrade' will sort it.

gcc does in some cases but not all (see http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-4.1.1/gcc/Optimize-Options... but not all). Still, the current standard says it's not legal so it seems like a bad idea to rely on undefined behaviour...

If you have multiple items of which you're only going to store one at a time but want them in the same "structure" then you use a union. (i.e. temporally disjoint)

That sounds rather inconvenient. Are the external elastic IPs non-routable internally? I mean, if you add the IPs explicitly to hosts files then will traffic to those IPs not work?

There have been a lot of suggestions (on here and other sites) to run puppet with locally-rsync-ed (rsunk?) copies of manifests, but there are a few things which won't work if you do this, unfortunately. Most importantly is the `storedconf

Many US mobile/cell plans include paying for receiving text messages. Clearly no-one in the US gets any text message spam, or they'd be _really_ angry about paying to receive that.

I'll bite: I'd say that it's more that if there's no (current) way to track what the other package management system is doing on the distro (any distro, not just Debian) then they can't tell what packages are installed and hence whether the
