I did that with my last job. I said I only wanted to work 3 days a week in the office, and have my salary reduced by 40%. Worked out great. Seriously, talk to your boss, they may be up for it.

I guess I have a younger point of view, but it pains me to see people stay with a single company all their lives, it just seems like such a waste. They've dedicated their lives to making someone else richer is what it seems to me. The last

Precisely it. Everyone knows anyone can throw up a Paypal link, but to have the transaction go through on your site makes it feel more official. Sure, it's not completely rational, but people sometimes like it better (alternatively, some

I'm in your boat as a PHPer (11 years :)), but I like projects like this. I know you can't use your existing projects in it, but if it gains PHP some more respect from the general programming community, I'm all for it.

Congrats to both! I think it's important to realize while there are a lot of valid criticisms with PHP (likewise with other popular languages), there are still a great many intelligent developers and programmers in the PHP community. Once y

What about putting an ad on Craigslist asking a freelancer to set up Wordpress and install the plugins to integrate it to Twitter and Facebook? That can be done in literally a day (longer for a custom theme), and for about $500-$1000.

Without a doubt, Wilderness Survival was my favorite merit badge of all time. I don't think it was Eagle required, but boy was it fun and I learned a ton. But you're right, having to do my Eagle project taught me the most. Organizing some 1

I was wondering the same thing, it just seems like a service where they'll be able to sell your data to companies down the road, or advertise you stuff you might be interested in. Even if this turns out to be test data, it's still pretty sh

Yeah, this is awesome. Everything I need and nothing I don't. If you allowed me to upload my company's logo for each invoice, that'd be even better. I do freelance from time to time, but not enough to justify spending any money on an online

First, congratulations! Doing what you did in 9 months is every entrepreneur's dream (well, most of them anyway). Also, I'm looking through your product and I have to say I love the way you've done the tour and videos. I hate going to a n

That was me, and it's not accidental. I just had a new baby and making extra money would be a great way to fund his college :)

Something like this doesn't bother me at all. I enjoy using Twitter for free, and as long as the ads are targeted based on what I search for, they can be quite useful. If they aren't too intrusive (and I doubt they will be), this sounds alr

I've heard it also cradles the logo of the watchmaker so your eyes are drawn to it (which the second link also mentions too).

Thanks! I appreciate the insight and showing me what to look out for. I have a good lawyer, so I hope he would have my back with terms like those.

Stop, comments like these are pointless when discussing a C/C++ compiler. Yes, some people dislike C++, but some people also love it, and when a new compiler offers some really neat error reporting, complaining about C++ does no good. To th

I've always been a morning person, so I regularly wake up between 330 and 430. To me, I'd much rather wake up early than stay up late. I can wake up early and be fine the entire day, and then sleep at 9-10. I get solid sleep and very rarely

That's a great take-away I think. I think that is one of the reasons Facebook was so successful. I've been a member of Facebook since 2004 and I can't remember a single piece of spam I've ever seen through it. In 2004 when I joined, it was

I don't think it's snobbish at all. I see these articles on HN from time to time: 25 Awesome jQuery Tips, Learn YUI Tools Now! and they always appear from some random blog that just seems to aggregate links from other sites. I love jQuery,

For those of us who kind of know C but want to learn it really in depth, I like it as well. It makes compiling open source programs really easily. I took a cursory glance of the code and it seems good, but is it good code to learn from?

That was the part that stuck out to me the most. Someone in the music/movie industries certainly must understand the fundamental difference between copyright infringement and physical theft.

Wow, I didn't know MeetingMix was a YC company. We use it at work and it's great. Simple interface, does everything you need and nothing you don't. Now I feel even better knowing we use it and it's a YC company.
