You don't get it. You may elect to have your DL as a voting document as a convenience. It doesn't mean you have to have one in order to vote. A state's Board of Elections will issue you a voting document.

I only mentioned DMVs to point out that even if you didn't set out to get a voting document, you can still check the box and get it. In other words, it's not "people need driver's licenses to vote".

This makes no sense. You can literally register to vote at the DMV and I know very few adult Americans, of one ethnicity or another, who don't have a driver's license.

I respect this position a lot, to never make yourself captive to a party or write them blank checks. In a way it's like a significant number of Americans feel the same way. The people who elected Trump, then Biden, then Trump again.
