Honestly the concept here is not new, and the more I think about it the more likely I see levels of storage from fastest to slowest (and capacity in the same vein) ranging from batteries/capacitors to pumped storage systems. Between al

I think it's worth noting that in kernel-land most things have fixed maximum sizes anyway. So while a VLA may seem like it's saving time it is probably cheaper to just use a fixed size array in most situations. In the cases where

IIRC google and the like solve this using a special time routine in their kernels that literally just spread the second out across the day. It's close enough.. and legal will still accept it for auditing requirements.

We used to have separate stream recycling here... it was actually easier, you put glass and metal in one bin, I believe 1&2s in the next and 3s in the third, everything else was tossed.

I dealt with it peripherally in my last job. Apparently the only reason Office has a 64bit version at all is Oil and Gas was causing Excel to run out of ram and demanded it. We were developing a COM addin, and we had clients complain that w

As much as I can imagine MS would love to kill VBA it would be a major loss of business if they did. Oil and Gas lives in the stuff and would probably even sue MS if VBA died. That said could it be getting a much needed fixup... probably. I

I think the biggest issue would be the audit. Recall that NT started out as part of OS/2 which is owned by IBM. I suspect that Edge/IE has similar issues, because it was evolved from NCSA Mosaic it probably has legal issues preven

Courts have a tendency to look on this as criminal contempt and refer the lawyer and the client to the various AGs when this happens.

Reviews are protected speech, this has been litigated multiple times and has precedent in the US. If you live in an area with a SLAPP law I would suggest getting an attorney to file a SLAPP motion for you. The onus is then on the plaintiff

Lower network traffic (No DHCP and associated overhead), simpler routing (IPv6 is only CIDR). That may not seem like much but that's actually pretty huge to mobile carriers where that can translate into hours of battery life on the dev

Not in the US Navy. Part of the reason the US Navy standardized on PWR is that while it's not the most efficient it is something you can restart at depth if necessary. The lesson of how much that matters was driven home by the loss of

Can you explain why this would be the case? In theory this shouldn't be an issue because any ShiftJIS conversion to Unicode should be reversible.

In reading the article it's clear this is not a bug, it's API abuse. The documentation for VirtualAlloc is very clear that Large Pages should be a one time allocation thing are not intended for general malloc replacement.
