downdetector.com is also showing a spike of users reporting issues with Instagram around the same time. Assuming both products are hosted with the same infra, perhaps the issue is up-the-chain and not related to any changes in the product p

Basically everything I was doing came to a grinding halt for 45 minutes because I live in Latin America, where your entire life runs on WhatsApp. It's infuriating because nobody will consider any other messaging app. My phone's ca

Man gnip was wild. I remember getting access to the Twitter firehouse for a while through this service. We built some really useful stuff with this.

One could interpret "leaving the UK market" in such a way.

Except for iOS users, which is roughly 1/2 of all people in UK (according to a quick search).

Signal could block all UK IP addresses from accessing its messaging server. UK could require ISPs to block access to Signal messaging servers. Both of these are fairly trivial (my understanding is that UK already forces filtering on ISPs fo

There's a couple ways: - Signal could just ban all UK IP addresses from accessing its messaging servers. Your encrypted messages still pass through servers controlled by Signal, Inc. - UK government could require ISPs to deny access to

People don’t read. Period. They’ll just click anything. One approach I take is to make the user type something before taking the destructive action. Make them type IRREVERSIBLY DELETE MY ACCOUNT!, in all caps, with punctuation. Another opti

Sounds like Postgres connection scaling issues to me. Just a wild guess but the fact that connections are heavy in pg is a foot gun that tends to rear its head during large scale-up events

Omada is their SMB line so they act a bit differently. You can freely use the hardware without any registration or restriction.

I also just set up an Omada system (8 switches, 20 APs) for a friend for the first time after recommending UniFi for years. Very happy with it so far.

Not anymore with their latest models. You are required to have a Protect NVR and account before they’ll let you use standalone mode, and, apparently some new models disable it entirely. Check out the UniFi subreddit for details. Very disapp

I was looking at buying a new camera from them to use in standalone mode. AIUI, you are required to have a Protect account to activate newer model cameras. It appears as though they’ve done away with standalone RTSP streams. This is a new c

I’m in a similar situation to OP and recently came across this project. Their supported hardware lists compatible SoCs, not actual make/models of cameras. I’ve found it fairly hard to map an SoC to a camera. Anyone have any suggestions

It’s wild to me that someone making 300k/yr would want to live in an apartment building. I’m assuming they’ll be constructed like every other apartment in the past decade with paper thin walls and little consideration for natural light
