If I'm reading this correctly, calculation skills are what suffer with increased empathizing, rather than ability to solve applied math problems. Is that right? Are there examples of what constitutes calculation vs. applied problem sol

Obviously I'm biased because I'm building a company around it (interviewing.io), but I don't think biases around credentialing are going to go away until interviewing is anonymous. The other stuff is harder to crack. I'd

(1) We listened to most interviews on the platform to establish homogeneity. Interviews were across the board, language agnostic, and primarily algorithmic in nature. (2) We actually looked into this and noticed that time didn't really

Thanks, as always, for the thoughtful notes. We certainly don't mean to imply that this is gospel, and there are limitations to the work, and fwiw, we are thinking about potentially moving to a 5 star scale. That said, if click on the

As a former recruiter, I can't second this enough. Applying online is like shouting into a black hole. Pinging a real person with sincere, earnest content and talking to them like they're a person is so much better.

Sure. But just because something is self-deprecating and a (just barely funny) joke doesn't make it acceptable. Context matters, and this was literally the first thing the guy said to me.

My personal favorite of the ones that I've gotten... "Normally, when a woman is dressed like that, I'm paying her to whip me." (What I was wearing included but was not limited to a leather jacket and black shoes.)

Author here. I get this counterpoint a lot and for good reason. My best response is that a resume isn't something you come up with on the fly. It's a document you have every opportunity to show to people, get feedback, and improve

I think what you describe is a real problem and unfortunately one that getting data around is really tough, for the reasons you describe. For what it's worth, when I observed a disconnect between how well people spoke about their proje

What sucks is that even if it's hyperlinked, people probably won't click it. I don't have clickthrough data for resumes (if someone does, that'd be awesome), but anecdotally, clicks won't happen unless you really ca

Credentialing of some kind needs to exist for software engineering. Clearly traditional means like college degree aren't cutting it, and more and more people are going outside the system to learn to code, so I expect degrees are going

Author here. What I meant was that right now there isn't much of a feedback loop when it comes to interviewing. If you get rejected, you often don't know why. And that sucks.
