Are people downvoting you because they don't want to humanize someone they hate? Or am I missing something?

Possibly a stupid question, but why would painting your roof blue help keep it any cooler than painting it white for example, which reflects more light? Edit: Ok it turns out there's 2 parts to a cooling roof, how reflective it is, and

This article is directed at people who consider pushing themselves hard (whether or not they do). As someone who doesn't do shit, but thinks about doing lots and pushing myself hard, I still found it an insightful read.

> As others have said the USA is far from a free market. Instead the wealthy use the state to manipulate markets for their benefit, and the rest of us suffer as a result. Some might still call that a free market.

Your claims about social, cultural and spiritual inferiority sound like outright zenophobia/racism.

Perhaps children in our culture are "clueless" because usually they grow up far removed from the animals they eat. I wonder if children who grow up with farm animals, or in a culture dependent on hunting would feel differently.

I was about to post about the cassava example which is often used to explain the role of blind faith in cultural evolution, but then I found this fascinating article that argues against it: http://cognitionandculture.net/blo

What's fascinating is that I believe it's this exact trait that has allowed us to advance as a species. Humans are excellent copycats, we follow traditions and practices often without question. Call this "culture". Cu

I'd like to see a control run where you don't attach a filter to the fan. My hypothesis is that it won't look very different compared to when the filter is attached (I hope I'm wrong though).

I appreciate the humbleness of this writeup. The dev asked others for help explaining the code, and eventually the bug was solved by someone on another team completely! And there's no shame in that (nor should there be), but my pride o

I love all of the photos. Lots of casual pics of happy people. Everything has a very 90s/00s vibe which I'm finding nostalgic. Does anyone know where this database comes from? I feel like they were all scraped off old MySpace page

I agree with your first point. With the second one, I'm less convinced. Perhaps I'm being a pedantic here, but you can always refuse an order. There may be consequences (like being court martialed) which you can avoid by resigning

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. These are definitely good reasons for someone to resign. They're also reasons that benefit the resigner personally. I think that's a good thing, and people should take care of themselves, but it re

Yes it did make me smile. My response was only half serious. The moral I extracted was that free will is fake and humor is all that matters. If that's the case I'd have hoped he'd have thrown a few more jokes in ;)
