I've always maintained that sci fi really shines in short stories and novella's. It's rare imo opinion for novel length sci fi to be as provoking and pleasurable.

I've been on multi year projects to modernize old IE applications, and one of the things that IE11 misses is "standard" xpath evaluation. A lot of old "dhtml" apps were all in on soap/xml. There's some wie

I often wonder why, in this age of reboots and cinematic universes, no one has mined this series, and the Hardy Boys for material. Iirc, there was a tv series for each in the '70s. Related; there was some really great writing for telev

Careful with that line of thinking. My son was 6 months old when I gave him a small bit of the peanut butter cookie I was eating. He could have died. I would not wish that experience on anyone.

People always over look this, but it's critical to getting to a truly fair-use shared platform. You can do it with PUC lua using debug hooks. Not other runtime I know of has this feature.

Until you realize it's code you wrote. Happened to me when our children were little. There were large parts of a system I'd written, sleep deprived, that I had no recollection of writing. Version control said I did, but I didn

Bad is not a good measure. But taking 'bad' to mean large, convoluted, zero documentation; I was once at a financial services company that had a 25 million+ LOC mainframe cobol application that had been under active development si

Interesting to note that legacy mainframe sorting isn't just moving values around in memory like all the algorithms we mostly study today. Mainframes back then had vanishingly small amounts of RAM (compared to what we have today) and h
