This particular software is for water utilities to model and simulate their water and waste water networks. It's mostly used so utilites can forecast growth in their areas for the next 25+ years and see the impact on their networks and

The version is stored in byte 96 of the header of the sqlite file[1]. I haven't looked but there will be some sqlite command to query it and I'm sure some viewer tools will display it as well. [1] https://www.sqlite.org

I can understand why they do it, it's enterprise software so the more open you make it, then the less licences they can sell. They do have a module you can purchase to run API calls and access their files/software but as you proba

I have an application that uses sqlite as their file format but they've cleared the header so you can't open it directly. I'd love to be able to make secondary applications like you've described but being enterprise soft

If you publish content for a professional niche, then LinkedIn may be your best choice to reach your audience. I'm a hydraulic modelling engineer, and people in my field don't hang out on the internet together like software develo

I've mostly been learning/practicing my French. My wife is due to have our first child in six weeks and she is keen for our children to speak French and English. Besides all the benefits of being bilingual, I mostly fear my wife a

I simulate water distribution networks. I create computer models of water networks and calibrate them so utilities can do what-if and growth scenario planning. (e.g. what happens if this pipe burst? how would the network cope with 20k new h

The core engine for this library is EPANET which the US EPA released in the public domain many years ago. Extremely niche as I don't suspect there will be many engineers simulating water networks but every water utility will do this at

As a self-employed person who has lived in Australia, the UK and now Canada this thread is eye-opening.

When my wife needed new glasses, our benefits were capped at $400, including the eye exam. I can't remember the exact numbers, but after the exam, there was roughly $250 left, and all the glasses started around $400 in-store. After a f

I would suggest starting with something static if you're just starting out. Best way to get a feel for how it works without having to worry about setting up a spatial database. I used this article myself to learn: https://ge

If your data set isn't dynamic you don't even need a tile server. You can generate the tiles with tippecanoe [1] and serve them straight out of S3. When things get too large you can keep them in the mbtile file and serve them out

If you want to use vector maps you should also check out Mapbox GL JS. I use their tiles but can use other providers or generate and host your own, which I also do. I've been making spatial apps for probably 8 years now and moved from

If you wanted to springboard off one Citizenship to get into the US, you could go to Australia, and then you get access to the E3 visa. Though as an Australian living in Canada and running a business here, I hope you would stay and reward t

I am just adding a second thanks for all the work you've done for the mapping community. I've made a decent amount of spatial apps over the years, and they wouldn't be possible without your work with Mapbox GL JS, Leaflet and

I build hydraulic models of water systems for UK utilities (but live in Canada), one of the things we look at in the model besides the performance of the network is the age of water. In the UK, pipes are sized based on the needs of the dome
