You build a reactor and specify its lifetime, then push the reactor past its design lifetime, then you find way too many cracks in your reactor and you want to run it for 4 more years by asking for an increase in the $number_of_allowed_crac

Integrated circuit design is a vast field with many different areas of expertise. Given your goal, your best bet is to buy an FPGA development board and learn an HDL (Verilog or VHDL), and start experimenting. When you to deeper in the fiel

The article states: "When MCAS senses that the angle of attack is too high, it commands the aircraft’s trim system to lower the nose. It also does something else: It pushes the pilot’s control columns downward " No, it does not

I was thinking whether they can "hide" an extra AoA sensor under the hood for emergencies. Just like a landing gear can be put down or retracted, an AoA sensor can be kept inside the fuselage, and brought out only when necessary.

Despite all we've read about this subject, are we really still implying that this is a software problem?! Very basic rules of commercial aircraft design were violated during the development of 737MAX. No point in listing all the issues

No, I meant highest. For example: If your target rail is 12V, use a minimum of 16V rated capacitor, but prefer a 25V rated capacitor over 16V. This application note has a very detailed explanation of Aluminum capacitor reliability (page 12)

I agree with what you are saying in principle. However, the MCAS system apparently is designed to not kick in when the flaps are extended. In your situation, since you were descending to land, the flaps would have been extended and MCAS wou

That is correct, but remember that the aircraft wasn't stalling, the AoA sensor was bad.

It is difficult to understand the design decisions made on these complex software systems without any real domain knowledge, but one can't help but wonder whether this whole MCAS system is pushed into the field prematurely. For example

I agree. Unfortunately, it feels like there is so many people out there lacking the fundamental engineering background to write software. I once spent an hour "optimizing" a piece of code that ran in 15 minutes, which tested an em
