Sorry I wasn't trying to downplay your response, I agree it is the only hope we can actually have these days. It's awesome that you are giving back though, Hawaii has got to be a really fascinating and challenging case study for c

Apologies, I'm based in Pennsylvania and it's definitely more noticeable here. I expect it will become more apparent elsewhere too. We're at 3x the total population that existed when europeans started settling here, and witho

I love that the answer is always more technology will save us. Whether it's carbon removal advances or cloning, we just look towards future advancements instead of cleaning up our act. I understand that expecting some sort of big shift

From the article it sounds like invasive species, plus the fact that we have royally screwed up the local ecosystem. For instance — white-tailed deer are growing exponentially, eating all the underbrush and outcompeting other animals, and t

This is super depressing, it's crazy to see how much the flora/fauna have changed locally in my lifetime. It makes me wonder how much worse it actually is. Is looks like most of these were initially listed in the 80s, not too long

Source? Look at MongoDB, Okta, Datadog, Elastic, etc... they wanted more capital, I'm sure their staff wanted liquid equity, this seems like a win for everyone.

It looks like they were part of the S12 cohort for YC, and that is definitely VC money.

They did take VC funding though? By pulling themselves up by their bootstraps (and a meager $1.3 million in funding) they were able to start a company! That's not an insignificant sum of money, I see that they didn't take further

How do things like this make it to the top of HN? I know it's unrelated, but I'm curious, is it due to the users post history? I mean within 15 minutes of posting it was down, and it already had 50 upvotes?

Facebook knows their audience well and is catering to it. It's social media for middle-aged conservatives, so it makes sense to advertise to them. I don't know of a lot of young people who use the platform still, they've all

Obviously upvoting and downvoting is not enough for adequate moderation. There's still the aspect of people trolling and generally posting horrible things online. There's a reason Facebook had to pay $52 million to content moderat

Awesome, I'm waiting on my new pro to get here, it's a huge upgrade from my 2016 butterfly that died on me. I wasn't sure which one to get but after upgrading the memory to 16GB the cost difference is pretty inconsequential b

Yeah, I second this. I would definitely be interested to learn more about approaching VCs at the pre-seed/seed stage & pre-revenue/product market fit. Some questions I would love to see answered: How do you raise money in stea

I'm really curious as to what Oxide's plans are who are they selling servers to – individuals or companies? Is the plan to build your own data center or is it to throw a few of their servers in a collocated spot? Who is the compet

Hi Jared, I found another field that might be worth updating. There is a question in the Founder's profile asking if you are willing to relocate to the bay area, which doesn't feel applicable for this batch.

Thanks for the quick response! I'm definitely interested in eliminating CAPTCHA entirely. I was really hopeful for the Javascript check y'all were doing, but it looks like there were too many ways around that.

Hi Matt, This is unrelated, but can you please get rid of hCaptcha? It is an awful experience and it feels like there is a conflict of interest with including it vs captcha. You are now incentivized to push more users towards fraudulent vs
