I haven't used Discord or Matrix in a while so please forgive me if I have this wrong, but just reading this comment and the parent comment, the only difference there seems to be that the Matrix voice room can (optionally) be coupled t

I'm not sure what difficulty you mean aside from way cooler, please check out smithay/anvil if you want to see decent progress on a rust wayland implementation: https://github.com/Smithay/smithay Wlroots is a

KillUserProcesses=yes is quite a reasonable default for security though, as lingering processes after logout can be an issue on multi-user systems. For example it can be used as protection against fork bombs. I actually have no idea how Lin

I think you missed the last paragraph of that comment which also mentions GTK apps applying their own themes, which is still an option. If you know a developer who wants to do this then let me know and I can walk them through the process. I

I understand they are billed that way but in practice I don't believe they fulfill that goal, as the job of making the messages unreadable is mostly already done by transport security (SMTP TLS). Sure it can protect against some things

I think you are confusing privacy with security, which is a common mistake, not your fault -- end-to-end encryption is what secures the messages, by itself it does not ensure that the messages get to the right place or that the encryption k

Is it though? I don't know much about this company but their main selling point seems to be end to end encryption for mail messages. That's not a "privacy" feature by itself. Now it is a tool that you can use it to gai

I don't understand why you're saying that hurts you, that doesn't make sense. If that developer wanted to add support for themes on top of libadwaita they could easily do that, GNOME is not preventing anyone from doing that.

For certain Wayland implementations (GNOME) that is not necessary, as there are no privileged interfaces that are exposed over wayland. The privileged interfaces are part of the flatpak portal which are filtered using a d-bus proxy. The big

Thanks for the tips, I will try that and try to get some perf, I am currently compiling Ardour 6.9 :) On a side note, I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but I think you need a better plan than this, cairo has been in various sta

This is not new, GNOME has hidden the font settings as an undocumented setting in the tweak tool for quite some time now. I don't think you should have to be disappointed that it's considered an unsupported hack, if it works for y

That has basically already happened on Windows and Mac and for good reason, so it's actually long overdue to happen on Linux. Apps simply cannot be expected to work with an endlessly growing matrix of user customizations. At some point

I'm sorry, but this is still all based on a misunderstanding. Even without this change, apps still have the ability to use a different theme besides adwaita, and with the change it's still a thing that they have to opt-in to. Aski

Hi Paul, not sure if this an appropriate place to mention this but I hope you please consider at some point using OpenGL or Vulkan to at least render the track view in Ardour. I have a large project with around 50 tracks that is extremely s

GTK3 is actually feature frozen, it's not a moving target. Development has moved to GTK4. Also, it has always supported third party themes, however the convention is that they were always considered unsupported because they can break a

No biggie, I've seen lots of people in car modding communities who use that term casually and don't know where it came from or why an Asian person would find it rude, so I just try to educate people :)

I think it's been suggested for a while to test with the default themes (Adwaita, Adwaita dark, High Contrast) but everything else is unsupported. I don't see how you could test with every stylesheet available when a search seems

Please don't jump to these baseless conclusions based on a misinterpretation of one twitter post. The issue here is with libadwaita, not with GTK, and if you actually read the gitlab issue chain by that person then you will see that pr

You can still do that, but hopefully you understand that by doing so, you are in unsupported territory. Also, I would suggest avoiding the use of that term as it comes from a racial slur aimed at Asians: https://en.wikipedia.org&

In some situations, changing the font could absolutely considered a hack -- this can break apps in subtle ways by messing with the spacing and sizing of elements, and it gets worse if you designed your app for some specific form factor(s).
