So called "positive rights" like that are bad. If you want broadband and don't want to pay for it, you are basically saying that your neighbors should work as slaves to provide it. In that if they don't, they are violating your right. Right

Argentina is a good example of how much government can screw up a country. The anti-capitalism regime is not attractive for new investment, local or foreign, and existing capital flees the country. I live in the region and see it with my ow

Thanks. Not very practical if two people using want to be able to contact each other on Skype and especially if they are both using it on the iPhone. Imagine if everyone was using Skype like that. No one would be online.

Very complicated in an automatic transmission car it seems. Very simple in a manual transmission car. You just press the clutch. You could even stop and start again and drive around with a little abuse of the clutch pedal.

Government does a good job wasting resources. But fun to watch peoples ingenuity getting around restrictions. In Denmark until recently car importers used to transform Land Rover Discoveries (LR3 in the US) and other cars to auto campers (a

Timezones are more than UTC offsets. If only it were that simple. The model might work in the US with about 4 timezones, where summertime changes on the same dates. But some places don't observe summertime, some change on different dates th

Do you mean that when you get an update, you both write to the database and perform an update in the cache? If so, you would want it to be a transaction so that the cache and database is not out of sync. Maybe a write cache, like on hard dr

The difference is that Mac OS X tends to get faster with newer versions. Apparently Snow Leopard even takes up less disk space. Not the case with newer versions of Windows.

Good programmers are creative thinkers. "Middle men" are usually doing something of value otherwise there wouldn't be a need for them, and they wouldn't be around. It's not because of a conspiracy that programmers are needed. You could use

Isn't it ironic that the state as an enforcer of property rights is also a violator of property rights? Why do you need fiat currencies? Gold has been around as a currency for longer than fiat currencies backed by nothing.

Protectionism is bad. It doesn't benefit an economy. It can benefit the protected industries short term as well as the people they bribe to get the protection. But overall it is bad. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_advantage
