The CSIRO report appears to have cost estimates for "normal" nuclear power plants too. Large scale nuclear $155-$252/MWh. Solar PV and wind with storage $100-150/MWh. https://www.abc.net.au/n

I usually end up paying about $5/month, though that is a data only plan as I just use Google Voice for calls and use maybe a couple of gigs of data. Having moved here from the UK where I was used to cheap mobile plans I just grate at h

I just buy local eSIM's online when I go abroad now. Lycamobile is usually good around Europe if you land in a country with them. Their UK and Portugal subsidiaries are £5 or €4 / month with 30-50GB in country including 12GB roami

Coverage is very specific to your situation. I've had basically no coverage on Verizon in offices in the Bay Area where T-mobile worked fine while colleagues could only get Verizon at home.

Is Google Fi particularly cheap? Their normal prices seem to start at $35/month for 30GB of data which is more than Verizon's Visible plans at $25/month. (The current 50% off offer on Google Fi does seem a good deal though.)

lz4 can still be the right choice when decompression speed matters. It's almost twice as fast at decompression with similar compression ratios to zstd's fast setting. https://github.com/facebook/zstd?tab=readm

Surely the alternative would have been that land being owned the Anglo-Danish elite installed by Cnut a few decades earlier, or perhaps a newly installed Norwegian elite had Harold lost at Stamford Bridge. Britain's ownership inequalit

While I don’t think anyone should be allowed to take a 2150Wh home made battery on a train, I’m not sure why battery capacity should affect classification. Limiting power delivery makes much more sense. Quite common for Bosch powered cargo

LA is much less dense than Canadian cities. Taking the central municipalities which seem fairly comparable: Toronto: 3.271M in 631 km2 = 5184/km2 Los Angeles: 3.879M in 1215 km2 = 3192/km2 Toronto's population is growing, up

While Utah has a lower homicide rate than California (2.2 vs 5.1 per 100k) like many rural states it has a much higher suicide rate (21.5 vs 10.1 per 100k). Accident mortality (mostly overdoses and car accidents) are similar (49.7 vs 51.1 p

These prices are a lot closer. You can play around with the assumptions in the government's LCOE calculator spreadsheet linked from the article. Removing the carbon price and using pre-wind load factor of 75% gives a LCOE of £67/M

Median income is not much lower in Utah than in California. Utah's low healthcare spending per capita is likely a reflection of Utah having the lowest median age of any state. Most healthcare costs are spent on elderly people. I should

If you’re building a new rail line you might as well make it high speed. The problem is that a political decision was made to tunnel through the Cotswolds to minimise local impact because a lot of rich and influential people live there.
