Clarified "starting out on that project". I've been doing this for 30 years and I'm also a CEO. I've had multiple successful projects, like starting Java@Apache and open sourcing Tomcat. I made a lot of mistakes alo

Sorry you're not getting my point. It isn't a complaint. I'm responding to a rather flippant "feel free to help" with some advice from someone who's been doing this a long time. I've got a project that has

As an open source developer for 3 decades now, I used to have this flippant attitude. Trust me when I say, it doesn't work. Build the framework for tests and then require anyone who wants to help build the product to write tests with t

We are building something like this for AMD MI300x GPU CI workloads. Except that every time someone shuts down a VM, we start a fresh one; hot spares cuts down your start up time. We take on the small fortune expense and multi tenancy does

This is rather technical, but SCALE is a solution to enable Nvidia CUDA code run on AMD GPUs, without modification of the original codebase. The results in this early experiment show that even though performance hasn't been a focus yet

hipify attempts to do that, but it potentially requires you to maintain two source trees, which isn't optimal. In this case, you'd want to run a CI/CD to convert your CUDA code at build time and compile that. But I think ther

Oh, interesting! Thanks for the additional context. This is one area where it is clear that Nvidia is a leader by not only providing the underlying kernels, but also the overall product framework integrations. One would have to port that en

If it is a self contained monolith, that's perfect for this. You have a long running process, which scans a database for new work and then posts to localhost.

Cloudtasker is a wrapper around the actual GCP Cloud Tasks service, that's not what I'm talking about here. What I'm talking about is the implementation detail of Solid Queue itself.

The end user doesn't need to implement the queue or the worker. They just need to implement the http api for receiving POST messages. The queue "server" is effectively just a http client that reads messages from the database

If this was part of reducing operational overhead, why not implement something functionally like GCP Cloud Tasks [0]? Since this is part of Rails, all you would need to do is implement regular http endpoints, no need for workers/listen
