What type of support issues? I had servers with hetzner for years and I never had any problems, which also means I never contacted support, so I can't say. I'm trying to figure out if you were expecting support for things that mos

I know a simple blog isn't the type of site this contest has in mind, but a couple years back I tried to shrink my blog's homepage. I got some good feedback and was happy with the result. Since I go long stretches of time without

The point is that "small things matter." (1) For them, that was getting the speaker right. As for the references to RadioShack, I think he makes a good point: RadioShack was important in helping people build those small things. (n

Outliers exist, and you can build a team of them (it's been done, it will be done). The "trick" is to get people to "work" on something they love doing and are proud of. Also, and Carmack nails it, people are differ

I dunno, early Id Software seems like a good example. Personally, I think it directly relates to having people do something their passionate about. 20, 40, 80 hours...doesn't matter, getting a group of programmers excited and passionat

Only read the last one (since I was specifically curious about health). Mostly seems related to shift work "and the night shift"...which I'd say isn't directly related, but nonetheless interesting. Thanks.

Anecdotally, people who I've seen struggling with an 8 hour day tend to be less healthy (overweight, poor eating habits....). Whereas people who exercise more tend to have more energy.

Source that people who work long hours have greater physical issues? Intuitively, I'd expect the opposite.

I hear this argument/fact often, and while I'm certain that it's as true in the aggregate, I'm also certain that it ignores outliers. There are people who can be productive (and happy) working more than 40 hours a week

Pets require a long term commitment. If you're buying one for yourself, you've [hopefully] put some thought into the implications. It's a lot harder to be thoughtful on behalf of someone else over that time period.

I don't have a strong opinion on this, but if you really believe that as an absolute, how do you balance the harm to society? For tobacco, harm being costs for increased health care, health impacts on non-smokers, and frankly the simpl

As for performance numbers, you'll get better performance from a $400/m dual E5-2620 v3 w/64GB of RAM than a $1200/m c4.8xlarge. The E5-2620 will also include a lot of bandwidth (which alone could save you thousands of d
