Nice start, but it needs to come down directly on use of social media to harass a conference participant. It's not strong enough for what she did.

In fact, the next day she made a phallus joke herself ( http://imgur.com/7XGY8wB ). This suggests that her motivations may be questionable. When you read her blog, you notice that she felt that she was taking a stand for other women and f

Maybe PyCon's Code of Conduct should be amended to deal with bullying use of social media.

In the article, he hints at it with his discussion of acceptance, but more directly there have been reports of people dealing better with chronic pain through meditation. Apparently, it comes down to the same thing: your attitude and emotio

Moral of the story: Coding mindlessly can be almost as bad as blogging mindlessly.

That's a fine observation, but unless it can be fixed in the aggregate it's still part of the intractability of the problem. Or (more directly), you're not offering a solution, you're making a complaint.

In divorce, there is a settlement agreement. Once you are locked in no one is looking at the cost of living.

Pwned? You really think those problems are going to be solved in the near term? Given the state of our government?

If the cost of those and impact of taxation varied at the same time and the same degree that would be no problem. But that has never happened. Given the state of our governmental problem-solving ability in the US all those numbers can do i

You know, I love these posts calling for high taxation by relatively young people who are just starting their careers. Wait until you have kids about to go to college or, if you are unlucky, alimony and child-support obligations. Or major

Canada has a very different culture despite its proximity to the US. You can't even compare the two. In my experience, people in the US are taught to feel that they are losers if they don't achieve a certain amount (or basically get what th

Nice story, but it's a bit like management fad books. Experiences of a sample size of one extrapolated to the status of general truth.

Nice, but the DMCA needs more reform than that. There is a severe imbalance in the fact that parties who feel that they have been infringed can serve financially disastrous take-downs that must be complied with immediately. The only recours

Could a site have a policy where if you issue a DMCA takedown for something on the site they drop your content and ban you? It's sort of like the logic of GPL.

Apparently, the notices say "under penalty of perjury", but at the very least you should be able to sue abusers civilly. I'm just not sure that is a great recourse for open source. DMCA needs reform on this. There needs to be scale of fines

It's odd about technology. The more pervasive it becomes before it legislators are aware of it, the harder it is to crack down upon. I don't know what the legal challenges will be to the widespread use of BitCoin in commerce, but I'm sure t

I don't buy the lawmaker's 'fairness' argument either. True, cyclists do use streets but so do automobile passengers yet no one is floating the idea of applying a tax to them. Many revenue sources have this quality. Property taxes foot the
