Let's say you're writing an app like Google Docs, which does a lot of work on the client. Before long you're going to have a real mess of Javascript variables, DOM elements and arrays of stuff, which is why it's useful to have MVC structure

I think if he had been technical the damage would be seriously mitigated. It's the kind of FML-clone site a lot of hackers would put up after a weekend sprint. It looks reasonably polished, but not 3 years polished. What was the revenue pla

Are you kidding? Raw source code has huge utility! Many companies build businesses upon open source software, and this is really no different except they're paying for the code. Understanding the API and integrating it into the current syst

The perfect example of a fresh upstart being acquired by an incumbent dinosaur; I hope they can maintain their culture and spirit. Congrats to the team, but I find this quite disappointing.

And here I am about to launch a service on Thursday with PayPal as my payment processor. I didn't really want to, but for my customers it's basically a requirement. I'm expecting to take about £2k in the first few days, so I'm almost certai

"Graham is known for his 'pizza profitable' mantra". It seems ramen isn't even a conceivable foodstuff for WSJ's readership. 'Pizza profitable' has a nice onomatopoeic quality though.

I love this project, congrats on reaching 1.0. One question - do you have any plans to support replica sets, or can I currently specify a connection to a set of servers rather than one master? Thanks!

Does anyone know what the new features of this version are? I can't wait for the blog post and haven't been following development closely :)

Generally not, and I'm quite sure they wouldn't have to for this deal. Obviously any exit event would be a valuation and Yuri would get a cut. But in case of failure, everyone walks away empty-handed.

Quick answer - he does get equity at the next funding round. What he gets is the amount of equity that $150,000 would buy at that valuation. So if someone else invests $250,000 for 25%, that's a valuation of $1m. Yuri would get 15% at that

You're right, and I have done my best. I suspect that the majority of strong candidates would have applied anyway, and my application is just as strong today as it was yesterday. We'll see!

The only thing I'm upset about is that I put in my application yesterday and now the competition is going to skyrocket! But overall I think this is great for YC, and great for their startups. It's everyone else that should be worried.

I've just been building a large app with Backbone.js, and I can tell you that it is seriously versatile. I don't use the routing at all, I just move objects around and save and load them from and to the server. The great advantage is in the

The first comment is correct - this is the UK scene more than the european scene. My real problem with the UK scene is the relative lack of talent available to startups. Where do talented graduates from the UK want to work? Banks, consultan

I think that there is a scale depending on how far you've got with the startup. The pain of a rewrite rises the further along you are, which is why it's important to: a) Make good architectural decisions (good luck) b) Rewrite a lot as earl

You get a daily quota of 2000 messages if you're an EC2 customer. That's pretty competitive, and nicely within the limit of what I'm sending at this stage of my startup. Sold, well played once again Amazon.
