I think it might be a mistake of dividing the options into two camps, Uber and all other taxi companies, by now.. There are a LOT of IT solutions any taxi company can rent that gets them a lot (or most?) of the Uber features (except the bra

Interesting, been annoyed about this for years. I'm bookmarking things both in Chrome and on the Samsung internet mobile browser and neither prioritizes my bookmarks when I start typing something in the search bar. It actually seems co

I think the EU timeout for the proved infection is 6 months unfortunately. So someone in the EU decided that a COVID infection's protection only lasts 6 months.

Decoherence theory explains that if you have an entangled system that is not sufficiently isolated it will pull in the environment (including the researchers) quickly into the superposition. This explains why a human won't see a "

You're just moving forward the limit a bit by the proposed experiment - if it works (like is generally assumed I think), the sceptics will just say that the breakdown limit is higher than the mass of the glass-beads.. :)

I've heard it expressed numerous times that the zero-sum-game argument is a fallacy. There are a lot of foundations and donors that pick among projects and might just hold on to their money if a suitable project to fund is not availabl

As a complete tangent, I recently heard a podcast [1] with Frank Wilczek, inventor of so called time-crystals, where he discussed materials where waves can propagate according to a rich enough set of rules to essentially "simulate"

To put this into context, retinal waves (essentially self-propagating excitations along the retina) pre-birth have been known to exist and help neural organization for what must be 20-30 years. What's new in this paper is that they add

These primal reflex arcs are suppressed by pyramidal circuits from the brain as they mature, essentially overriding them. This is one set of neurological tests of damage to the higher spinal cord/brain in adults; those reflexes can re-

You know I tend to agree with the previous poster, not that it's a hack, but that I've always felt its a bit backward reasoning. You say the physics should be invariant under curvature of the field, but it isn't unless you ad

I do agree with this but would add that you wouldn't want to do static docking to a single protein and sidechain configuration anyway so you're bound to find a usable forcefield. The incoming structure (ideally!) only needs to fal

I think the issue is that a lot of devs won't care, they are contractors and some project leader calls and says something is down, they see a failed hash, download it again and restart.. and the hash check in the first place was probab

Nature has re-used existing folds all over the place (partially because of genetic mutation but also because it's improbable to come up with stable folds from scratch by evolution I would guess), this was encapsulated by earlier award-

You are misrepresenting Sentry pretty heavily here. It's an old crash reporting system and it works well. You can install it on premises completely for free and don't use any of the SaaS stuff. Your data never leaves your data cen
