I did much the same and had a pretty horrible experience with Blackberry after owning multiple Iphones. I guess i realized that there are just so many basic IOS apps that actually had value to my life that weren't available on BB. Th

Yikes, kudos for enduring that. I've actually started to turn my phone off at night, and it's actually crazy the feeling of relief I get from that small action. It's like there's some invisible unbilical cord between m

There's a school of thought that says that people use apps like this not to follow the pleasure principal, but that these platforms provide a brief escape from the neurotransmitters asdociated with anxiety that make us feel bad (1). T

The culture changed. Tech now mostly attracts (post)collegiate millennials chasing the startup wave (don't blame them, it's where there's chance of an actual job). You only have to look at the dwindling state of open-source

That Isaacson book really leveled him for a lot of people. OP is right about him not putting up with crap. Sure, not everything that came out of Cupertino was rock solid. But I think as much of an aesthete that he appears to be have been,

I don't think Kubrick needs any more mythologizing or celebrating, but dammit if Barry Lyndon isn't a ridiculously great piece of film-making. While I think his Napoleon film (which provided all the research for the Lyndon world-

Parsing for quality signal here can be tough with an article with over a 100 comments. Screen real estate can be hogged by the noisier threads, making it difficult to track a meaningful discussion.

Another reason we meed collapsable threads here. You'll never stop "noise" entirely, but bullshit threads that sparked by OT comments could be easily snipped with collapsable threads.
