Yeah I agree. I think there should be some mention of why a "fifth" is important (3:2 ratio of frequencies, which is recognizable, and when this is continued, it eventually "loops back" to the original note (at a 2^n:1 ratio, where n is the

Once arbitrary data can be sent through peer connections via a browser javascript application, then there is no reason why the BitTorrent Live protocol (or some other similar P2P streaming protocol) could not work over WebRTC. One difficult

It seems like in about 6 months or so (crystal ball reading) this will be available in chrome stable. (createDataChannel is not yet implemented even in Chromium trunk) It's already possible to participate in BitTorrent swarms in pure javasc

It's actually not written in the browser. It's a javascript API that interfaces with a headless local process (communicating with AJAX over 127.0.0.1. It has issues with mixed secure-content warnings, though)

I agree with you that WebRTC is the obvious choice when it becomes available. It's simply too hard to get people to install a client. For users to install a client, the uses for it must be compelling enough to go through the trouble of inst

AFAIK, the centralized server is not a strict necessity in terms of the functionality of the core protocol. It is more of a business decision to require the central server to authorize the stream (I believe each stream has a key that must b

Facetime and Skype and Hangouts are mostly for 1-1 communication or small group communication. I think the aim for this is to enable anyone to a live broadcast to as large an audience as they wish. Like justin.tv, or ustream

Opera has (had?) one built in. The difficulty is the necessity of hashing the entire file. Torrents are great for snapshots of large files. I think one of the reasons the torrent protocol is not built-in is that it's simply more complicated

There's a lot of times that I'm watching something on YouTube that's broadcast live (like presidential debates) when I wish there was a less corporate, ad infested version where it was available. I think a P2P solution for events like this

I notice that whenever I use "wget https://github.com/ [...]" I always end up typing wget --no-check-certificate because the first try never works. I suppose my web browser has an extended list of CA that my OSX lion does not know about.

Interesting concept, but there is not enough explanation as to how it is implemented, what motivates the project, and what kind of browser support is available.

Yes, from what I have read there is still no "untethered" jailbreak for iPhone 4 iOS6. That's what's keeping me from upgrading.

Packaged apps (still Chrome canary) now at least have most UDP/TCP socket functionality (when experimental API turned on in flags), so the door is at least open (soon) to more advanced apps.

Also strongly agree. And am still confused about why I had to scroll down to the bottom of the comments to find people who point out what seems (to me) obvious: there is no way in hell I'm entering my credit card into an inline frame.

uTP (micro transport protocol) is a TCP implementation based on UDP. Used by the majority of BitTorrent clients. It seems to work pretty well. It's interesting that you think TCP was a bad idea. Do you have any sources or reading material t

There is little distinction between in my mind between the torrent, whose bencoded 'info' dict sha1 hahses to the 20 byte magnet link, and the magnet link. The hash uniquely identifies a torrent. Either way, you are presenting a representat
