I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you and say that this doesn't cater at all to the facebook/tween crowd. It's not even to appease egos. No one puts up facebook fan pages or youtube videos to promote themselves. This would be perf

Even with that, I fail to see any value. It still doesn't solve anything. One thing I never understood is how one would type on it. If one of the main purposes of a tablet is to utilize internet services, I'd imagine that typing emails/IM/t

It's all about cockiness and really not giving a damn about possible outcomes. You also need to realize that many of the 'cool' people you talk to are caught up in a world of idiocy. Once you can pick up on the stupidity, you'll feel a lot

Oh sure, it can get rude. There is a limit. I was speaking more to the occasional text reply. I do agree with you that conversations in front of others is quite rude.

That's a pretty common misconception that older folk have. And you're simplifying the social connection framework to something it's not. It's not that cut and dry. I don't rank my friends on a gradient based on company preference. Every rel

My suggestion to take HN offline for a month should be taken the same way as when one says to his group of friends "hey, let's see what would happen if we went a week without pants."

I often wonder about whether the constant connectivity with ubiquitous Twitter use and all is really a good thing, and whether we should just go out and play soccer and breathe the fresh air all day. I definitely find myself caught up in th

No one really cares about "We more clearly delineated required fields and section groupings." And I think many of the explanations are really recognized subconsciously which lead us to favor one design over another. What you said reminds me

You need explanations as to which one is better? Really? 'Cuz all I need is a 5yr. old and a 55yr. old to point to which one they think is easier to use.

I think one thing you're missing is the idea of social validation, or social proof, of your product. Like TallGuyShort said, getting invitation emails is rather annoying, and quite insincere. Users can spot that insincerity in a heartbeat.

"they know that their business is based around repeat customers who all know how to work the system." Hmm, so they're intentionally crappifying their experience to make their existing customers feel 007-esque? To make them feel that they're

Huh? I went to the stocktwits site a few days ago after hearing about their acquisition of chart.ly. I could not figure out what they did. I get a cute live feed of people talking about stocks and... that's pretty much it. Who throws 800k a
