Employers are, by default, going to look out for themselves. I'd argue that the onus is on the developer to understand and fight for better contracts. If more developers were taking these matters seriously then companies would have to

I think the idea is more like that saying "Opportunity is a meeting of luck and preparation". So maybe it's more like 'manufacture opportunity' by constantly showing up prepared.

If I'm reading this correctly, Objective-C is bumped out of the top 10. The line just sort of stops though, which doesn't give much indication of just how far down the list it is now.

Given some of the pessimism in comments about this idea, a certain XKCD comes to mind - https://xkcd.com/1497/ I'd be really interested to see one of these in Toronto

Honestly, I put a good amount of effort into LinkedIn before quitting. I even subscribe to the job seeker's tier for a month before realizing what a piece of junk it was (pure vanity metrics, little substantial information of use). My

I'm down with "All (ok most) programming languages are simultaneously good and bad". I assumed it would go on to discuss Javascript, but nope. Which really goes to show how true the statement is.

Hmm pretty broad strokes. I think its constantly important to scrutinize ourselves and our tech decisions like this though. I don't think I'd ever take a front end job that doesn't use a CSS preprocessor, though I understand

I don't think the primary complaint was about not being able to refactor, that's just how he opened. Most of the article is about just how ambiguous and deceiving the errors can be, and all rooting from a similar mistake too.

I posted this because our company also uses Stripe and I wanted to get more community opinion on this matter. Hacker News has a way of always being relatively grounded on subjects.

Thanks for this comment. I kind of feared saying something like this would be begging for down votes, but I'm glad I'm not alone. I truly believe that a good developer knows how to strike a balance, and if he/she wants to be
