Hm, Calcbot on the iPhone also returns 2 if entered without a multiplication after the first "2". Hitting the open parenthesis key removes the "2" from the calculation. Since Calcbot displays what you've entered below the answer, it's easy

Neat, that top answer is mine. And yes, it does borrow quite generously from the first chapter of SICP, which is the canonical source for that kind of info. Still, it's nice to see something I wrote coming up again. I'm glad it's helping pe

I really want Apple to move the games out of the App Store and into a separate Game Store. As someone that's frequently NOT looking for games it's hard to find good apps because so many of the top spots are taken by games.

The title implies that removing at most k nails makes it fall, the actual paper deals requires at least k nails to be removed to make it fall.

Bad title, "removing any k nails makes it fall" is NOT the same thing as "the picture remains hanging when fewer than k nails get removed".

I can't wait for passenger rail to take off in the US. The weight of the passengers is virtually inconsequential - CSX has advertized that they can transport 1 ton of freight 436 miles on a single gallon of diesel fuel. Obviously people are

Yeah, this has happened a number of times, enough that I'm wary of investing time and energy into using a service that appears to not have any means of making money. Last fall, I evaluated Posterous for my personal blog, but one of the reas

Indeed. In fact, in my experience, an iPad is more conspicuous than a laptop because laptops are pretty commonplace now and no one gives them a second look, whereas the iPad is still something of a novelty and still attracts some attentio

This, and the other articles that have popped up like it, are straw man arguments. Very few people are saying that Apple's going to combine iOS and Mac OS X into a single OS. When people talk about the "iOSification" of Mac OS X, we're talk

I didn't even get past the "Pure. Concentrated. Awesome." header, the douchey picture, and "You Should Follow Me" when I closed the tab and decided that I have absolutely no interest in this person or what he has to say.

Actually, this is something I hate about Apple Stores. Give me a line to a cash register and I'll happily stand in it, but I hate having to track down someone that will take my money - usually all the employees are chatting up other people

The criticism of Apple's USB drive was insightful, and showed a definite flaw in the design of the unit. However, these two examples are just petty. First, any time you need your serial number you will be told how to get it, and clicking Ap

I, too, think that getting Steve back was the right move, with NeXTSTEP as an added bonus. I'm just sad that BeOS died an undignified death - a few years ago I bought a BeOS CD off eBay and was very impressed with the OS. It was more respon

I don't know about that. Sure, there are some people using 5-10GB of a 50GB account, but I'm sure there are lots of people that are sticking with the free account when they'd gladly pay a little bit $1-$2 for slightly more storage, and peop

Agreed. There is no such thing as "responsible disclosure". If you discover a security vulnerability, either say nothing and move your business elsewhere or make an anonymous public report. Identifying yourself only makes you a target.
