The cost of bandwidth and storage is dropping at a faster rate than inflation. Besides, I'd say 90%+ of the blogs on a service like this would be mostly text and low traffic, and $5/month can cover that today several times over. That said,

Interesting observation. I don't particularly care if the Chromebook succeeds or not, but I wholeheartedly agree that the trend towards wider and wider (i.e. shorter and shorter) screens was terrible. In addition to all the valid points I'm

You should look into Squarespace. They built their own platform and do all the maintenance and upgrades. I've never heard of a Squarespace exploit or of a Squarespace site going down because it got too much traffic. They did almost go down

It's been significantly warmer the last few days than it supposedly was when the first trip was done. Given that temperature has a big effect on the car's energy, both the battery capacity and use of the heater, I'd say CNN's results don't

Sure, most people probably do, but Lion & Mountain Lion hide the scroll bar if there's a trackpad, as was the case for me. I clicked the link from pg's Twitter feed, read the words "Airbnb is poised to bring memorable local experiences

The title of this article is misleading. From the article: At the time of the talk, Etsy’s had twenty women on its 110-person engineering team, which is a roughly eighteen percent (or a four and half times) increase from the p

I think there's a subtle, but distinct, semantic difference between someone being "responsible" for something vs "accountable" for something. The former means that someone is expected to do something or have that thing done, while the latte

Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia. A week ago that was edited from $23 billion to $230,000 billion (i.e. $230 trillion), which is obviously preposterously wrong: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sam_Walton&dif...

I think that's a false dichotomy. It's possible to make the network and the attached services more resilient to a DoS without making it less open.

The amount of stuff you have is the difference between the amount of stuff you acquire and the amount of stuff you sell or discard. This essay does a pretty good job of covering the former, but the only mention of the latter is the followin

Using closures to encapsulate private variables is a good idea, but the way this article recommends doing it doesn't demonstrate any of the benefit as it doesn't really close over anything. I don't know if it's an example of good JS code, b

This whole UEFI secure boot thing is a deliberate attempt to lock out competing third party OSs. I'm surprised there haven't been antitrust inquiries in the US or EU about it.

The problem though is that if everyone waits around for services to become established, then no service will be able to grow to the necessary size to become established.

Well, I suspect that part of the reason why the Nexus One didn't take off was that the phone was $550. Dropping that to $300 made the purchase a lot more desirable.
