Telling investors that the startup makes no revenue is a joke to them Maybe this is just poor word choice on the part of the author, but a startup with no revenue is a joke unless you haven't launched yet. If you have, you

The cost breakdown: * GitHub Enterprise: $5000 per 20 users per year, effectively $416.67 per 20 users per month. (You have to pay yearly though) * GitLab Enterprise: $39.80 per 20 users per month, or $398 per 20 users

I wasn't even aware CoreOS is a Y Combinator company, I wonder what the monetization strategy is.

There are certain advantages to custom hardware. For example, the OS could be flashed onto a tamper-resistant ROM to prevent it from being surreptitiously altered. The device could include a smart card slot used on boot to decrypt the stora

Interesting idea. Instead of a VM though, what about a small, low-power box that you plug into your home network that handles secure communication transparently to the user? I'm thinking something like AdTrap ( http://www.kic

This seems to be a habit with Microsoft - Spot, MSN Music, PlaysForSure, etc, all no longer work because Microsoft insisted on being the only service provider, then later on decided that they couldn't be bothered to continue providing

This seems like a great opportunity for someone to develop an open source high-availability, fault-tolerant 911 dispatch system. Being able to get first responders where they're needed as fast as possible would provide a tremendous pub

I'm not a fan of languages designed "for children". They tend to be toy languages with limited expressibility, and libraries tend to be limited or nonexistent, severely limiting what the user can actually do with the language

Well, in an ideal world it would be both perfectly manageable and not dangerous, but I think we're both saying the same thing. Cars and bicycles are very different and bad things tend to happen when they share the same roadway.

And yet Seth Vidal is dead, and the driver remains alive. In an ideal world bicycles are given equal respect and stature on the roads. In practice, however, riders have a lot more to lose in a collision with a car.

I'm a Reeder user myself, though 99% of my reading is done on the Mac version. So far, ReadKit ($4.99, MAS) is the closest thing I've found to a replacement. I'd still prefer Reeder, but I can comfortably live with ReadKit if

The USA is so vast and so diverse that it's very hard to make general statements that apply to all of it. While the author of this post claims to have seen quite a bit of America, a lot of what he says doesn't mesh with my experie

I don't have immediate need for the new capacity, so I'm actually going to wait a few weeks on upgrading. With any luck the early adopters (and probable heavy users) will have all upgraded and I won't have to share a machine with too many.
