This. A thousand times: this. I really feel like this really cuts to the core of the problem with "cybercrime". The fact is, most people have absolutely no understanding of the technical details of the "crimes" most hackers carry out. Mos

Well, of course the citizens played a key role. But it doesn't mean they weren't fleeced or foolishly lent to by sleazy, greedy bankers just like everyone else in the Western world. Even if you hold these citizens fully accountable, at lea

Not quite. These people, perhaps foolishly, took out loans denominated in Euro. When these banks imploded, they took a huge chunk of the Icelandic economy with them, and the Krona was heavily devalued. Yes, people should have been more wa

Fine, and so the case is complex and expensive. If the accused truly are guilty, then they will be afforded due process of law and then convicted. The case may cost twice as much for the government to prosecute, but the large company wi

Why don't they just replace the proxy with a list of other proxies for TPB? Any problem can be solved with just one more level of indirection...

The voters in the PUSD district are, by and large, highly skilled professionals. They understand what's going on. It's outrageous.

As someone who lives in the area, the PUSD includes (very affluent) parts of San Diego. The district is huge, and its Mello-Roos income is also huge. This is absolutely outrageous. Rest assured, the entire school board will be dumped com

No. Imagine a museum was displaying an oil painting that had been illegally taken by the Nazis in the 1940s and kept from its rightful owners, who were alive today and appalled that their property, evidence of the 20th Century's worst war c

I wonder which key derivation function is used. In practice, this is probably more important for security against brute-forcing than choosing AES-256 vs. AES-128. I hope they take some inspiration from the excellent tarsnap and use scrypt.
