Oops, I started on an entry for this, and then went off with some new variants on the algo and forgot my original goal. But I did make it fairly readable: FixedPoint<uint32_t> x; do { x.setFraction(src()); x *= r

Good info -- thanks. Their Eon mode product is very similar to Snowflake, with S3 storage and semi-dynamic compute nodes, but they may not be as slick at marketing it or providing a UI.

It's a data warehouse engine, for running SQL queries, hosted on cloud EC2 instances and s3 storage (and Azure, etc. equivalents). It's like Vertica or Redshift, or older examples like Teradata. It runs on a cluster of machines w

That's a good question; I'm curious how the sales process works. It's not winning on performance or price/performance. I suspect it's other features such as easy onboarding and an ETL (or ELT) toolchain. They clai

Creosote refers to both a tar substance and the result of wood combustion (smoke), which is a bit less toxic. For instance Seirogan pills are wood creosote.

No, I haven't. I mainly work with Vertica and did some troubleshooting on a Redshift cluster. I've mainly read comparisons of performance and price/perf vs. those platforms. Reading through their docs their semi-structured

The question is why. It doesn't seem to have anything to offer in performance or price/performance vs. even mediocre products such as Redshift. Am I missing something?

That's not a bad interpretation. People forget that there were other programming models floating around at that time. In my youth I constructed a whole system of indirect referencing with register variables on an HP-41C calculator; w
