What a shame for the Saleae people. HP 1650 analyzers can be had in the $10 range (plus shipping) from eBay, but I think the bus pirate might have worked out for this hack.

I had some Brother typewriters but I think the most amazing piece of this I ever had was a (Xerox) Diablo 630. Aside from the daisywheel printhead, it had what looked like a 1/2 hp motor to move the carriage. I used to watch in amaze

The Interpol Purple Notice explains that the ship was previously sailing under the Mongolian flag. Isn't Mongolia a landlocked country? Does it have any navigable routes to the oceans? Where are Mongolia's ports?

This would be really bad for consumers' security in light of the current fashion of deploying poor quality firmware full of bugs and dropping support for a product after it has been on the market for a couple of months. I thought that

I don't know if there are no ill effects! I have heard countless admissions of "I jacked up the power" and "I enabled channel 14." If I am not mistaken these are some of the "features" of DD!

I think it's great to encourage these kinds of work. I'm old and wish I had made my impact in more meaningful areas. Lots of people here have changed the world. I can't be the only one looking back wanting to have done it fo

I'd like to use this precedent to drive with an expired driving license. It's discriminatory to allow some parties to continue engaging in licensed activity while penalizing others for "the same conduct."

Is it possible that the subjects who went to cannabis already had problems, are self-medicating, and would have achieved the adverse outcomes anyway?

I think you're right that the research isn't up to par. But I also think there's a lot of empirical evidence to show that there are some use cases. I don't expect any scientist, chemist or doctor to recommend that I bu

Won't the modulating/transmitting malware increase the system cpu load (run queue, or whatever)? This could be a detection vector for it. I have noticed when running a program that does nothing but work the memory bus, Memtest86+

What a terrible car, especially the "1994 model" which is laughably just the 1974 car as if it were from some Soviet manufacturing line that just wouldn't go away. If you think bolting an airbag into a 1974 car body makes it

This would be really easy by correlating signal strength measurements from several towers. Then, an analysis of these data would reveal unusual patterns that differ from what would result with the common isotropic antenna. This kind of cor

I attacked a Harman QNX device done for a different carmaker. When I got access to the serial console I was able to look deeper. I found a script to take down the firewall, and that a series of canbus messages will run the script to enabl

Ha, Harman tried that with a recent project of theirs that is in serial production now for a big carmaker. I identified the strange connector and asked for a free sample of it, from there it took me ten minutes to disable the firewall and

They made like 80,000 cars, how many of these are not under warranty anymore? Documentation is available and there is already aftermarket coverage for wear items. If they fail to provide access to a necessary tool for repairs, it will be

No way. The carmaker cannot guarantee emissions, safety or its operation if tampering is permitted. I think they should stop at voiding the warranty, though, and not move on to making threats or legal actions.

Here in the USA the carmakers are bound by law to not act in a way that prevents you from repairing your own car. The article that you cited does not seem to advance the argument in your comment, even though it opens with a story of a compa
