Yes, but to be fair we're much closer to rationalizing creatures than rational ones. We make up good stories to justify our decisions, but it seems unlikely they are at all accurate.

I'm sure it has a lot of sources, but it was popularized more recently as a mistranslated Circassian proverb, which caused a Turkish journalist to go to jail and then was picked up by various English news outlets.

I really wanted to agree with your comment, but what I read looks like gibberish. There were 8 million "contacts" with migrants from 2021-2024. That's not a number of immigrants. It's bizarre to believe 3% of the populat

Complex systems are by definition high dimensional. We often build them with fault tolerance and soft "failure modes" to prevent catastrophic events. However, the dimensionality and complexity mean that almost every sufficiently c

This reminds me of the time I had a horrible ant infestation in my dorm room shared kitchen (also had a horrible room mate infestation, but separate story). Lines of ants everywhere through the kitchen, but I had a 5lb bag of sugar. Went ou

Privatize profits. Socialize costs. If you're in international waters, you can destroy whatever you want and even at low marginal return, if you can scale fast enough the total ROI can be good. The solution to pollution is dilution (of
