I moved out of NYC to a more affordable state for this very reason. In 2009 my health care costs and rent were nearly all of my take-home pay. I had a kid on the way and it was going to be even worse, so I moved. Now my healthcare costs, wh

I never could get the "restricted driver" to work for me (I have on past laptops, but not this one). It's possible that this has changed with more recent restricted driver releases.

I am a web dev that has been using Ubuntu as my desktop host OS since version 6.06, and I'll be the first to admit that, while 10.10 is a significant improvement, there are still some problems that probably keep it from being mainstream.

I'm on T-mobile. It's quite stable. It's crashed about as much as the Samsung stock ROM. You can back up your data (most of it, anyway) with Titanium Backup (available in the app store, both free and pro). If your contacts are tied to your

It took me a while to suck it up and flash a ROM on my Vibrant, but I'm happily running Nero v3 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883379 ) now and I keep kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The difference in 2.1 to 2.2

Like a few other posters here, I got my start in QBASIC (kids want instant visual feedback, and QBASIC certainly did that). Parents bought a computer, then forbid us to play anything resembling a game. So I wrote my own (and also discovered

I don't own a MBA, but I have owned a lot of Dell laptop's over the past decade (including some of their higher-end XPS laptops). I don't know how good the MBA build-quality is, but if it's even slightly better-than-average, then this Dell

There is no "unbiased news." Period. If what you want to do is get information without an overt bias, then yes, NPR is fairly good. Others have recommended The Economist, I second that. I would recommend getting your news from a variety of

I've never heard it said that we read merely to increase our vocabulary. That may be a happy side effect, but it's certainly not a fundamental justification. I think most people read 1) to educate themselves and 2) for pleasure. On learning
