I remember hearing something about there being problems with RISC-V+GCC since FSF wanted copyright assigned to them. [1] RISC-V did make it to llvm[2], with there being healthy development there. I remember Fedora running on RISC-V successf

Well, I'm worried about hardware backdoors even now too. Although there is always the 'know your hardware' tag advertised with RISC-V, that's not going to change until we have complete control(or trust) of the fabs. It&

I'm actually a bit more confident. The only thing stopping manufacturers in china from selling good CPUs (anything above tiny microcontrollers) is because their investment won't pay off in case they get sued. But with this open ha

that defeats the whole purpose of dropbox though. You can have a cheap ftp server for $10/year if you look hard enough. But the argument for dropbox is that you have a client for almost every platform you can use. With S3 you'll h

Most of the time when a company wants to get good at something, there are more factors than just the data/software involved. The developers who created it. It'll be more difficult to hire and train a completely new team of people,

But it's not LTS. All the major software stuff will be well supported for 16.04 till 18.04. If you look around, you'll mostly find 14.04/16.04 in supported OSes. Even for OSS software, not just commercial stuff.

Apparently my comment looks like I'm criticizing Google for making money off OSS projects. That is NOT what I meant to do. I like companies that make companies that open source their commercial products. It means they aren't paran

I think most interesting part of all this is that they're offering support for this[1]. So that and it now being a part of G suite is making it an 'official' service/product. And since Chromium browser is an open source

This is awesome! So this is some of the important stuff: 1. Use the LEDE codebase, rather than OpenWrt's (undecided but likely). They'll first push any new changes in OpenWrt since the fork into LEDE, and then rebrand move complet

The FPGA in the image is the retail version. But it's more than likely that amazon is using the same one since they don't modify the GPUs although they purchase them on a much larger scale.
