All the cited apple patents on multitouch gestures appear to be filed since Jeff Han's TED talk - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKh1Rv0PlOQ - which clearly demonstrates many of the patented techniques. I find it really hard to understand

The internet is not killing storytelling or long form writing, and photos are not the new storytelling culture. There is plenty of long form writing on the web, which the people who read long form writing will happily go and read. And story

There were phone handsets with buttons on before cordless phones, so as far as the UI goes, there was little major invention initially. The main inventive requirement in touchscreen phones is in making small, thin, cheap touchscreen modules

I had a similar issue. Some bit of my head just started swearing and shouting stuff about op-amps before I could get any further. That happens sometimes.

Bespoke touch oriented UI systems have been around for a very long time, some of them surprisingly sophisticated and innovative. A mate of mine used to do interfaces for touchscreen information kiosks, for instance.

The register can be good on tech issues, however it just goes completely mental if anyone mentions the words climate, nuclear, green or wikipedia anywhere within the editors earshot. Or if anyone shows Lewis a picture of some guns. Afte

If I was in China and looked at microsoft.com, I would think they were absolute idiots if it didn't default to Chinese. If you don't localise for all your major territories from your .com domain and force them to use a country domain instea

Good to see a More or Less story on HN. For those who don't follow it, it is basically either a UK current affairs show for the mildly autistic, or a regular open university maths and economics lecture - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00

I’m not Japanese. No shit. But ever since my wife and I moved to Kyoto, the Internet sure seems to think we are. The internet does not think. Or if it does, it has weird proto-dreams of kittens and porn. But it does not think of you, or

It asked her if she wanted Japanese and she clicked yes and it gave her Japanese. What crap do you think anyone is pulling here? Also, if in Japan, I would be surprised to find google.com not to be in Japanese, and I would expect to have to

Your stand is fairly unwarranted though. People know what "pointing your browser" means in this context as it is still a commonly used turn of phrase, even though it may date back into the long forgotten antiquity of almost 20 years ago.

You could think of it in terms of minimal states, sunshine and moisture might make moss happy. But happy for moss is only a very mossy kind of happyness and so is just a fairly simple form of cellular "Woo!" and not a lot else.

Not to beat a dead horse, but could we be any nearer to reddit? I wish I could hear from people who upvoted this one. I'm not sure who is ultimately responsible, however I think your response would definitely make the list of 0th world pr

After much consideration, the only stereotype I have found that consistently works in most situations is: People do lots of things. Most of them are crazy. And the more people there are, the more crazy the things are in general.

The problem in loss of manufacturing jobs is deskilling. You only have a solid industrial design base if you have manufacturing communities, otherwise their isn't a wide culture to draw on of people who understand these kinds of problems. A
