eSIMs are more convenient - few days ago I changed carriers, and it was done just on the phone - I didn't have to go to physical store, I didn't had to wait for the SIM card to arrive by mail. The only issue I can see is that I ca

Exactly, so I have no idea what the grandparent meant about app stores and "weasel wording". Digital goods are exempted from the rule (rightfully so, because you could consume it immediately). A larger list of exceptions: 14-day c

IANAL but the above won't fly in court. At least the last part, 14 day return policy applies from the time you receive the goods/service, not when you give a business money for that good/service. E.g. you can return preordere

Why would a senior engineer do a system design? Isn't that a role of architect? For me that questions are in line with the "how much tennis balls would fit in an airlplane?" - fun, but are orthogonal to the SWE roles. How oft

I don't know, I don't get any SMS spam either. Maybe we are not that interesting? But I do get a spam call from time to time.

Spam operations have so much money that buying a bunch of iPhones is not an issue, even if they didn't, they could buy older, used iPhones for pennies.

I believe the authors are Czech, so I would give them a bit of slack regarding the language, they are not native English speakers.

In case of larger catastrophe cash is as useless as bitcoin. You trade food for other things, eg. tools, liquor, cigarettes, bicycle etc.

You had a power outage that lasted few days? BTW. For short outage batteries in terminal is enough, and BTSes have UPS that last quite long. Basically when my neighborhood has power outage (once a year maybe) for max 2-4 hours, cell service

Regarding threads I've seen two options (besides zulip state of the art handling of that). Either hide the threads like slack or throw them in your face like Cisco webex teams.

Slack threads are hidden, it is clearly visible that they were added later. I prefer how they are handled in zulip.

I don't understand. Just place a phone/charging case on a Qi charger? Doesn't CarPlay support wireless communication? Android Auto does.

    by krzyk 4y ago

Qi supports at least Baseline Power Profile (which is 5 W) and the Extended Power Profile (which is 15W). I'm not sure what and why Apple did to introduce 7.5W which is proprietary Apple extension.

Issue with os threads is that their number is limited. Not the issue with communication. Futures are good enough for that, if you need more then structured concurrency.

One can abuse everything, but should one? (and that error should be catched by any IDE or some static analysis). Optional are quite nice and we use it where appropriate, they play nice with streams which is a nice bonus.

OK, so when valhalla lands I assume Optional will become value type (or we will have another class for that, to avoid issues with backward compatibility)

Depends on code base, at the beginning you would prefer the opposite, (not annotated are nullable).
