I wonder if this time they allow you to take that 50Mpix photos, or are they magically transformed to 12Mpix again. Pixel 7 Pro also had 50Mpix sensor.

It is a bit brave to upgrade every 6 releases or every 4, I prefer to have smaller issues more often than big ones rarely. But I get that most of the time the issues is with dependencies that upgrade to lazily (that's why I don't

Yeah, you are right that decoupling build tool JDK and compile JDK is the way to go. But Groovy does indeed not work, or has support very late for releases between 8, 11, 17 and 21 - so for anyone that wants to stay current (and not wait 3

Those are not minor versions, that's quite natural path and is supported by every lib we used, except groovy. And this is the encouraged path for JDK upgrades, people are lazy, but not us :) Spring supports new JDK release ("minor

Not always for sure. We started JDK upgrades with 9 and went +1 every half year and Groovy was lacking with one of 10, 11, 12 or 13. It got so tiring that we had to let it go. Fortunately our tests were mostly JUnit 5, so it wasn't muc

Gradle/groovy is a liability for any jdk upgrades (similarly like lombok, but it usually supports new JDK at release, not before). We ditched spock because of groovy, and never looked back. Now at jdk 21, previously at 20.

You forgot about 8->17 which ads really nice language features, records alone are greatest feature after lambdas. And 21 brings patterns in switch and records.

It depends what one needs. VT are nice, but I don't use threads much, so it is a cool feature I won't use. For me bigger feature is pattern matching for switch and records.

It is a it like you would limit people from taking photos of your store. Is it possible? Because it sounds like fair use.

I suggest you read https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html section about comments. If my IDE requires me pushing SHIFT + F3, I would need now to push SHIFT+ALT+F3? How is that in any way more ergonomic? I assume sp

So they treat different parties in unequal way? Sounds like discrimination. Why Google can scrape data, and I as individual can't? Sorry I'm from Europe, so I'm not that much into "what corporate wants, it gets" kin

I don't use Fn on laptops, that's backwards. F1-F12 have basic functionality, when I want to play around with something less common (like changing volume, brightness) I use Fn + F key.

Well, I'm looking at that keyboard and don't see F1 for example, so there is no such key. Using key combination for basic keys is like using mouse to emulate keyboard.

Seriously? I'm a developer and if I would be left to my own devices I would upgrade to the newest beta software where possible and run Java 21 EA with enable-preview. The only stopper is lazy people and infosec.

Well, any other country (except Japan) has found a way. I don't recall when I had seen a fax machine in real life, there was one in the office 10 years ago, but it was one machine for about 1 thousand people. Sample solution is a websi

But all of those are in OpenJDK repo, so is de facto open source, just like linux kernel. You can't call a deb package with kernel as de-facto opensource, because that is just a package not the source.

Buy why you would want OracleJDK instead of OpenJDK? Those are nearly identical. Also is this the case if you use jlink (and/or jpackage)? BTW. JRE is no more since JDK 9, and Oracle doesn't offer it (but other vendors do) - so in

"de-facto open source Java distro" ? You mean "open source build for Java", because OpenJDK is open source, here: https://github.com/openjdk/jdk One can build JDK themselves, it is not that hard.

Do you have examples? I haven't seen any in a decade and now OpenJDK is almost the same as any vendor JDK, with small exception of bugfixes that might be included in given vendor JDK before it is merged back to OpenJDK repo.
