I'm somewhat skeptical of taxpayer funded innovation. Seen a few Horizon grants from the side, as a citizen I'd prefer to not pay for them, but unfortunately can't opt out.

Yup, most of Eastern Europe are Balto-Slavic. While the division from the Eastern Slavic languages (Russian, Belarussian, Ukranian, etc) is distant, they are still Slavic. From Eastern Europe, only Estonian is not a Slavic language.

Round, they knew, but still, to do it physically, was still somehow important - even for those who paid for it. Banal, depends on what you mean by this word.

Wasn't it to discover alternative trade routes and also to show physically that the world is round? I think they didn't know that there were usable land to grow tobacco when they started.

While I don't dispute EV depreciation (it's a fact, no matter the explanation), then I don't think depreciation is as "huge" of a factor as you make it out to be. People buy new cars all the time, while the added ut

Just what I've heard, but an Uber driver told me how he upgraded his older Model 3 suspension to a newer variant because they attach the same way. So at least this part you can swap if you want.

You're confusing wrappers with alternatives. The comparison is more like if somebody published a script called html-to-pdf.sh which directly calls, e.g, chrome, would you want to use this script or use chrome directly? I would prefer t

"Bikeshedding" means debating over aspects that don't matter (much; i.e, color of the bike shed), the linked blog post isn't about asthetic changes.

Yet these words I've never seen. You probably do your reading in a niche environment, that is why I'm asking for any actual content. Also, unlikely that I'll debate you, I'm just only wondering what that reading material

Sure, I don't mean that anyone would look at the Latex in between. I'm just saying that if tool x directly calls tool y to do the job then might as well use tool y directly.

There are multiple ways to "depend", so if pandoc executes some external tool all of the work then might as well use that external tool directly. You will get more control over how the conversion happens, know for what search for

Nix, in addition to reproducibility, also allows you to any multiple versions of the same software, including all the dependencies of each of these. From what I remember from Gentoo, this wasn't supported by it.

It's not the shape of the API payload that is the problem, is it? Few banks have a REST API for payments is the issue IMO.

Well, this is only "a great swap" in cases where the time taken is already so high that you won't notice a 10x. But this tradeoff would actually pay off where the compile time has a similar improvement as the size.

I don't think LLMs are anything human language specific, so would they really shine here? I.e, COBOL and SQL may be great for humans who otherwise aren't used to programming languages, but LLMs have seen everything, and thus are a

I would like to second this! I'm still using Keybase for e2ee git, and have been on the lookout for alternatives because Keybase isn't developed (AFAICT) and may just disappear when the people keeping it up lose interest.
