Ah okay. I'm currently working on a few projects using the WebCodecs API. What's your use case for headless rendering? Mostly curious

You don't even need puppeteer for this; I'm currently using the WebCodecs API with Theatre.js to render webgl scenes: https://gist.github.com/akre54/c066717f5f0e77c008e83b3377c8e...

Check out wave function collapse (this is a good article: https://www.procjam.com/tutorials/wfc/ ). It tends to be used for this type of procedural level generation. And, as another commenter noted, also for cities

One of my favorites is The Road to Wigan Pier, which investigates living conditions of the British working classes. He fairly deftly draws a line between wages and social reforms in part 1, and why the working class largely don't ident

Yes, but there exists an orientation in which all of the pentagons are over water (h3 uses this). It's impossible to create a global tessellation with only hexagons.

Unfortunately this isn't strictly true anymore (and hasn't been for a few years). All areas of surge have a quadratic fall-off zone around the high point to solve just this. You'd have to walk some distance for this to be hel

I think on some level putting work into the public sphere requires letting go of how you hope it will be used. So long as there are incentives to profit off of "unethical" industries, there will be people looking to exploit those

But that's the point. There are no resources to fund those "nice projects" that don't fall into resource extraction, military industrial complex, or advertising. There is absolutely a need for geo in other applications.

Check out deck.gl, which is packaged with streamlit [0]. There is a PointCloudLayer [1] and deck can read gltf. Also take a look at Streetscape.gl [2] which is designed for visualizing AV data Disclaimer: I work on Uber's data vis team

IMO this chart still doesn't adequately explain the data. That color scale reads to me like storm intensity. The crux of the problem is that visualizing uncertainty is hard (remember the NYT 2016 election needles?) especially in a geos

As a counterpoint to this, a few years back I was freelancing for a fairly well known startup. My first day on site their lawyer gave me a contract with a clause saying something to the effect of if the company found my work unsatisfactory

It's funny you call out FB for having a bloated product. Early in its history Facebook was the restrained option vs Myspace, Friendster, etc. The fact that you couldn't add custom CSS, sparkly unicorn gifs, and auto playing music

I've always liked the idea of aliasing "git blame" as "git praise". Makes me feel a bit more warm and fuzzy and focuses on the positive aspects of committing code. To your point, I think we shouldn't be shaming

I'm specifically referring to the use case of creating explorable apps. Most data scientists I know would love a way of, say, building a map with a few input controls that alter the data or presentation (colors, layers, filtering, aggr

To me the killer app for this is to empower data scientists to create useful, ad-hoc visualization apps for their results. Right now the html / presentation story for Jupyter notebooks is awful. Mike, Jeremy, and Tom, this looks awesom

No but I also don't set up a pretend subsidiary in Ireland that owns my intellectual property and pays me dividends for my freelance work. To pretend that they didn't go above and beyond to avoid paying taxes is lunacy.

I love it. Apple gets to avoid paying taxes for years through accounting slight of hand, and then when they finally pay for part of what they owe they want a pat on the back for doing so. Corporations, man.
